late game crashes

Hi all
Interesting to read the problems people are having with the game.
My problem seems to be rather different...
I've found the game to get more unstable the longer you play a particular pirate. I have a pirate who is v. close to retiring (bless him) and I'm unable to play him beyond 1627 (started in 1600) as the game simply crashes. I've gone back to earlier saves, but the game still gets more unstable the longer I play, no matter how I play him.
I have an Nvidia geforce fx 5600, and I rolled back my drivers to the summer 04 versions for general system stability.

No, Fred_Bob....I've tried that. Papa Titus is having the EXACT problem I'm having and he's even using the same family of video card that I have. I was complaining about that problem in the infamous thread, "I'm So Pissed Off".
