It is no secret that the map im PotC is upside-down. Since there is more and more content added, it is becoming more and more difficult to correct this problem in the future. I myself am not sure how to tackle this, but I feel something has to be done. I propose we start with pooling the facts that prove that the map is indeed inverted. Post those oddnesses that in your opinion show that the map is inverted. My observations so far:

1. The lighting of custom objects is inverted.
2. When sailing, the position of sails is always as if the wind is blowing from the opposite side (180deg from what the flags/vane say)
3. The sun rises in the west and sets in the east.

Again, I am not sure if this is correctable (or even if the crowd considers the need for this to be corrected), but I decided to bring the topic up anyway. A lot of effort already went into making it work as it is, but... my feeling still is that building up on something fundamentally wrong is not a very good approach.

Your observations and opinions please - post away! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

I agree about the map with north and south swapped. The compasses have been swapped so they all point the same direction, but the map is still off. I've looked briefly at the sun being in the wrong place, but haven't found the culprit yet. It might be part of the game engine that we cannot modify.

But the sails on the ships are a different problem. I've done a lot of experimenting with them, as I noticed early in the game that sometimes they weren't right. It turns out that square rigged sails work correctly, but fore-and-aft rigged sails show some decidedly odd behavior. This isn't a problem with the map, but apparently with the game engine itself.

Thanks for the comment Hook. I am sure the wrong sun position (or rather the RIGHT one) has everything to do with the issue I am describing.

Could you please pay some special attention to the sails position (I trust you know what they should be IRL, with a specific wind). Would be nice if you could confirm that. I am not bringing this problem up in the bugtracker yet, but I sure hope this will get recognized as a major bug. Then I will post it in the bugtracker.

Time is of essence, if I can remind you all. The more add-ons are produced, as of new islands and such, the more we get entangled within these wrong coordinates. Enough said...

Looks like Captain Hawk has some insight on the fore and aft rigged sail problems. See his post under Bermuda Sloops at <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6973&st=140#" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php...973&st=140#</a>
