<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> to all ye happy people out there. I'm trying to retexture a ship, specifically the Manowar_Gub, and have been having trouble due to some instructions I failed to fully grasp. I've read the tutorial on the PotC wiki, and have thus come this far: being able to open the manowar_gub file with the Hex editor. So how do I save "bortoutmanowar_ gub.tga" in order to be able to convert it into the proper format for editing?

Oh, and in addition just in case you are compelled to wonder what on eath I'm trying to do to the ship and all, like with the name, "WTF is this "armageddon" thingy??", I really want to make a big bad ship (although still one restricted to realistic norms. No more 3000+ cannons for me.) I have already succeeded in spiffing up the ship's figurehead to look like a demonic creature from one of those manuscripts you see in museums. As for the overall paint scheme, it shall be red and black laced with gold. ANY HELP shall be gratefully appreciated! Please.

With the HEX Editor, you change the texture filename, so that your new ship will use a new texture name. The name must have the same number as characters as the old name. Then you should make a copy of the original texture in RESOURCE\Textures\Ships and give it the same name as you set in the GM file. After that, use the <a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/tools/ConvertorTX.rar" target="_blank">TX Convertor</a> to convert the texture to .tga, then modify the texture to your liking and convert it back to.tga.tx.

Aye! Thanks a lot. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Now though, what program (preferrably freeware/trialware) should I be using for modigfying the tga file? I've had problems with photoshop on my PC. Can you suggest an alternative to photoshop?

I use Paint Shop Pro, but that is also an expensive program. I don't know any others, though there are bound to be some. I heard people talk about "Gimp".

Gimp is sposed to be pretty good. I've not used it... I have Photoshop (company paid for woo woo).

Hey Pieter, do you know of any Hex editor that has a massive "Multi-File" find string feature? I am trying to find out which .gm file has the bad reference to "resource/textures/LIGHTING/AMMO/SHADOW.tga.tx". Opening each and looking is a big waste of time hehe.

I'm sorry, IncredibleHat, I only know one Hex editor and I only ever used it for changing the texture filename reference... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I have the texture the way I want it, but with Photoshop it turns into what my PC labels as a PSD file, which doesn't show up in the TX converter.

Use "Save as..." and select the file type you want.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Now... finally after many futile attempts, finally I have reskinned a ship.. here it is for anyone's scrutinization and evaluation. Eh, and it was actually not that hard.. my inherent doofusness must've been hampering me... anyway:

I'm still twiddling with the design though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
