Pirates of the Spanish Main (Tabletop Strategy Game)

Well I have heard of this one quite some time ago but always forgot to post about it.
Recently two of my friends started playing it and they have fun with it.

So here some Info on the Game:

<a href="http://www.wizkidsgames.com/pirates/" target="_blank">http://www.wizkidsgames.com/pirates/</a>

I will play a game myself with them maybe soon, so I will tell aout my impressions about it.

I'm surprised no one else has commented on this (unless it's mentioned elsewhere?) I'm usually not very big on strategy games but Pirates of the Spanish Main (and soon to come Crimson Coast) drew me in as soon as I saw the display of it a few months ago. I love building and while I've only managed to play one game with a friend (and utterly defeat him on the high seas XD), I plan on continuing to collect more ships and finding more people to play this amazing game. It's simple to learn and fun as all heck to play, not to mention the fictitious stories and characters it's based on are very believable and add abit more depth to it. A must see for any true pirate fan. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> <b>Sinbari, </b>and welcome aboard! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

You know, I was in a game store buying Sid Meier's PIRATES! (the new one, LOL!), and saw these for the first time - really pretty cool, I must say, with the ships and all - I've been thinking about getting into it myself... It sure looks like fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Only wish I had more time! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Yeah I was glad to get one friend into it...my best friend is kind of 'i don't know...' about it because he's not big on strategy, but the other has even bought a chest to keep his ships in! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> I will bend my best friend yet though! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> It's great fun, even just to build the ships if you're a pirate collector like me (I have a whole wall shelf full of the buggers and no more room!). I want to play at the game store here, Valhalla, but it's clear across town from me, unfortunately, and a hugely out of the way trip. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> I will just have to keep beating my friend when he comes over for now. He knows who owns the high seas! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Hehe, i was looking for the packages but haven't find anything as of yet. It seems everything is pretty much sold out.

Buying a crate to protect the assembled ships is damn good idea i say. Have to remember taht! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

CaptainRed, try eBay - I see them listed there a lot! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

The expansion, Crimson Coast, is supposed to come out within the week, keep an eye out for those too! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> It'll have Frenchies in addition to the English, Pirates, and Spanish of the original. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

here is a review of this game:

<a href="http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/index.php?module=News&func=display&sid=1125" target="_blank">http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/index.php?mo...isplay&sid=1125</a>

Can anyone comment on this game, because i am considering to buy it (and a few booster packs)? I dont have that much board game experience - but loved Diplomacy and Axis&Allies and off course Sid Meiers Pirates! PC game.

You can't buy the game itself, there are only booster packs. You can play a 2 player game with 1 pack which consists of 2 ships, 1 island and treasures/crews.

The point to collect more packs is to make up greater fleets with the help of a point system (every ship is worth points to judge their strength) or to play with 3+ players.

There are many sites for that game where ppl posted their houserules for more than 2 players, etc etc. I saw photos where ppl even build real miniture islands. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
