Pirates! - The bugs thus far...

Well, pretty obviously I'm pissed off. The game is superb, Sid Meyer's been famous for managing to keep us hooked for entire days, BUT:

Here's my config: AMD 3200+ @ 39 C, Radeon 9600 Pro Catalyst 4.12 - great cooling, Win XP SP2 - Stable with pretty much everything else... Pirates! PC version.

Here's what I've seen so far:

1. The PC reboots! No blue screens, It happens randomly - may not happen for 6 hours, may reboot after 1 min of game play
2. `Lock-ups` - speaking to the Mysterious Stranger, after defeating Baron Raymondo, just as he's to show me the map, etc. once this happens it will `re-occur` each time I attempt - reset becomes the only option
3. Disappearing textures on the ocean, suddenly the horizon becomes black, ships and towns and fish are still visible, this tends to fix itself though
4. This only happened to me once - all towns/havens/monasteries - every town on the map disappeared - ships were still there - had to restore a way previous game...

If anony has ANY idea how to fix these, please share, also, does anyone know when THE patch is coming out?

Ahoy thar, Breach! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Seems like a lot o' de folks (not all mind ye) dat be havin' trouble seem tew be usin' ATI cards an' as such de first advice usually given be tew update yer video drivers, if'n ye has not already done so! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Some ATI users swear by de Omega drivers, so dat might be an option! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

I haven't had problems, IF i turn off my audio driver in the hardware manager thingy. If not, it hangs up at the beginning. Won't they fix that? I hate playing with no sound!

Dude, if you are using ATI Radeons 7200+ which is what can really handle the game for you ATI fans...set your screen refresh rate to 60Hz ALWAYS!!! I myself, do not like ATI cards, I use the GeForce cards. I like higher refresh rates and better graphics. Not to mention my game doesn't crash every 5 min. And there is no doubt you go with the Omega drivers. Why are the beta drivers better than the ones that ATI put out????? There is something severely wrong with that. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have no intentions to attack anyone's suggestions for making compensations for Fixaris, but people......we shouldn't have to downgrade our equipment to make Pirates! work. Instead, I'd be interested to know what direct channels are available to express my concerns about the game and all involved technical support and their lack of tact and knowledge.

Aye, ghittsum, since dis ain't no Atari or Farixis site, as ye prolly be aware, Fred Bob be suggestin' ye prolly oughta try emailin' yer list o' concerns until ye git some answers. Several o' us bombarded Bethsoft concernin' PotC when it turned out buggy, so it be worth a try! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

BTW, Fred Bob jus' discovered ye kin submit game feedback tew Firaxis using de follerin' link:

<a href="http://www.firaxis.com/company/gamefeedback.php" target="_blank">http://www.firaxis.com/company/gamefeedback.php</a>

Have at it, mateys! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

just a thought about the audio lock ups.

have u tried running dxdiag and dropping the audio acceleration for direct x, to see f that helps at all?

it helped a lot of us when trying to run EQ2 with sound stutter problems.
