Problems

I just found this mod. All i read about it by and before downloading made me really curious about it. So i searched for my old POTC-Disks and got started.
Sadly - it doesn't work as it should...
First thing i noticed was that the ne Titlescreen looked really coarse grained. Next thing was the Menu - Text was nearly unreadable and reminded me of good old Master of Magic - but it was even worse. So i tried to set up a new Game. 'The ingame'(Engine)-Gfx looked fine - like they always did in the past. All text and some Character-Pics were unsightly.
I tried to figure out what the Problem is. First i had a look at the Games Texture-Folders - nothing Suspicious... all my other affords to determine the Problem were also unsuccessful.
Maybe it's about my Systems configuration ?
DX 9.0c, ATI Radeon 1800 GTO with not actual Drivers, but hell newer than the Game itself.
Can someone help me with this ? I really want to play this one ;-)

i'm not at all sure about this, but i think it's your video card. it seems a bit old. (i'm not that familiar with video cards, but that one definatly seems old to me)

I'm sorry, but i forgot the X... It's an Ati Radeon 'X'1800 GTO and this one is definatelly not old (Yes, it's not as new as the Radeon X1950XTX and no match for this one...). I first played the Game on a Radeon 9800pro - and this worked fine. No, the Age of my GFX-Card can't be the Problem. X3 - Reunion, for Example, runs perfect with this Card. I'll add a Screenie, maybe that's better to understand:
[attachmentid=873]

is the view through the player always like that or are you simply to close to a wall? you know, it might be your graphics card after all. maybe it's TOO knew, and it can't run the game properly, or maybe it's simply the wrong type. i sure hope not. those new ones are darned expensive.

it COULD be a corrupt file, but i don't see how it could cause a problem like that.

No, the view isn't always like this. I took this shot at Gamestart, when you are asked the Questions, because you can see Text and Engine together. In this Dialogue you can't change Perspective and it's close to the Ships Wall. The Main Char normally isn't transparent and looks fine. Well, all 3d-Gfx do so, but most of the 2d-Gfx don't.
Oh, before i installed the Mod, i tested if my installation was working - 2d seemed to be ok before i installed the mod - i have been able to read the Text. The Problems occured after installing the Mod.

Maybe you're right and the Card is to new. I had a Problem with 'Far Cry', which worked fine with my old 9800, but not with the new one - The Game had to be patched before it worked again. However, the Problems i encountered in POTC seem to be of other nature.

Still hope someone can help me on this and thanks for the replys.

I just reinstalled everything - it's working ! Damn... i figured out that i made a mistake in the Games configuration-Dialogue. I pushed the slider to LowQuality-Settings, after installing the mod and didn't realize that i was doing exact the opposite of what i wanted to.
I am soooo stupid ! Well, a Pirate has to be less Intelligent than a Governour, i guess - A small consolation ;-)
Allright, i have to rob and sink some fat Freighters right now. Ahoi Mates!

be warned though that if you come anywhere near me you'll be feedin' the fishies! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> or you have to fly the jolly roger, of course. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" /> come with any other problem you may have over here. oh: nelson might be even more dangerous than me. he's got a rediculously souped up black pearl. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Be assured: You're not the first one to have that problem. I've heard it several times before and I admit the detail slider IS confusing. Now enjoy the modpack! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

NOW he shows up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I was busy buying all sorts of important stuff today; I had no time for visiting the forum at all until now. I can't help that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

i was suspecting that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> but i didn't see anyone else either!

Finally, i made it to Sail a little and to get some Experience. I have to admit, that my first trips to the open Sea weren't very lucrative. Every time i sailed out there were big (at least big enough) Convoys of Warships that seemed to be waiting for a little practicetarget like me in my helpless Lugger. But by the Time i managed to rip a Spanish Trader off his well armed Caravelle. With that Baby, without bigger Problems, i managed to get me some Dutch ships as Well. Very nice: A small Frigatte was under 'em! Finally i captured a spanish Warship. Well, they have style, i must admit - never had better Captains Quaters.
So.... Iam prepared, Morgan Terror, harhar.

...right now, i worry a bit about my Relations with nearly all... no, not really nearly, in fact all of 'em are hostile to me. I don't really understands how this works. I plundered, sinked and Captured Ships, hell yes! But my Relations were altered minimal (mostly 2 Points, a bit more, a bit less). Mostly i got a little Bonus by the Nations which were at War with the Side i attacked. But after the Fight, were i got my Light Galleon, my Reputation by every Nation went down. On the other Side the Pirates see me as neutral. Well, i started as one of 'em (chose the Flag), but back then i was not real accepted by the other Pirates (hostile -60)...
Why has it changed so rapideley ? Is there a Way to restore my Reputation in some case and remaining an accepted Pirate ?
Another thing is: i raised the French Flag and tried to land in Oxbay (After occupation), but they shot me down to Ground anyway. The Question is: Do other Ships only look at my Flag to determine if iam a potential Target or a Friend, or do they recognize my Ship (I mean - look at the Flag - ah, a Friend + look at the Ship - oh no, it's not ! That dammned Pirate again !) ?

i think that you, like many other early players, skrewed up with the flags. other ships indeed treat you by the flag you are flying, so if you are flying a hostile flag, they will attack you. one problem with this is that if you attack them in return, your personal relation with that nation will significantly drop, which is indeed rather odd, as actually, the relation of the nation of the flag you are flying should drop in comparison to the ones that are attacking you. the best idea would be to fly your personal flag, so you don't have to pay attention to all that political stuff. you can, as you probably already found out, change your flag in the relations menu. you personal flag is the one with your initials on it, like: J. S. flag. (when you play as jack sparrow)

oh: that warship of yours is no match against my manowar! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i have 58 guns more than you have! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />

i always thought that the warship looked like a floating brick. it's just to bloody square! nevertheless, it's not a bad ship. but i like the lineship better. it has 2 less cannons than the warship, and less hp, but it can be MUCH faster and agile, and it simply looks way better. and having the original black pearl is of course cool too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hi Fireant <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Re your reputation - you can increase it a bit by picking up survivors from ships you sink, doing nice things to people in port (such as NOT picking their pockets when they drop their purse)
or
you can go to the pirate island (for instance) talk to the Diplomat and purchase good relations with each country as you prefer
or
use the cheat mode - but being as you seem an "honest" pirate I don't suppose you wouldn't do that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
or
you could slip Morgan Terror a few thousand doubloons and he would pop round and say nice things about you !!

hehehe...sorry, got PLENTY of gold, so i won't be needing that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> but a little extra would be indeed nice. but i think my assistance would be more usefull in sea battles. unless me and my clumsy ship run you over. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> (yes, i do have a habit of doing that, that's why i usually sail alone. those repairs are just too darned expensive. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> )

About the flags: Enemies do look at your flag to determine if you are friendly or not, but there is a chance that you'll be rocognized anyway. Keep an eye open for the "Captain, we've been recognized" message at the top of the screen when entering 3D sailing mode.

Thank you, for all the good Hints. Finally i made a Deal with this greedy cutthroat at the Tavern (after i grappled a Ship of the Line - 100 Cannons, Yes! - and got rich :) ). I decided to be nice to the brits and portuguese (for as long as this seemes necessary). The possibility to dock in an ordinary Port can be really a blessing... also the fact that guards won't kill you on sight. I haven't tried to contact Morgan Terror... maybe he could have thrown in a few good words for me, but in my favorite low dive i heared a Rumor, which said he is really dissapointed about someone fishing in his waters. Many times he hunts for a lucrative Target, it is said, all that remains for him are pieces of driftwood... Maybe a Rumor, but maybe he's dissappointed of me - I can't risk trouble with him... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
... I can't help myself, but i have to tell you the tragic *sniff* story of the biggest Battle i ever fought until now:
I stood upon the deck of my new Flagship, the lately captured 'Ship of the Line', i called 'Sonnenwind', followed by the 'Thief', a well armed Merchant-Ship. I looked out to the Waves of the vast ocean and pondered about life, as i heared a shouting from the lookout: 'Captain, Battle ahead!'. As we got closer, i could see it through my own Spyglas <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> : Nearly 20 Ships in Combat. A group of Spanish Battleships must have been run into a british Patrol.
Flames, smoke and gunfire everywhere, it seemed like Hell opened its Gates to devour the World (In fact, i never got Problems with the Game and have a - in my Opinion - very good System, but here the Game began to jerk along). This was our chance ! I ordered to set course direct in the back of the spanish Fleet. And my Plan worked! The Forces of Britain and Spain were to busy about themselves to react properly on this new Enemy in their backs, so we to board two Vessels in our first strike. We not only ripped their Cargo, with my Talent for negotiations i won their weakheartened Captains as our Allies.
After my new strengthened Fleet took out another two Vessels, some began to flee the Battle (The Game speeded a bit up then - phew). Maybe 6 or 7 made it to escape, but the rest of 'em were forced to strike their colors or get sunk. So we got away with two new and awesome Battleships, full Cargoholds and more Gold then a tax-collector could loot in a lifetime <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> . However, before anyone could get Drunk - the Game crashed !!! Argh - This was the first time ever <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> !
Btw.: I figured out how to get the Building Set work (thanks to the Forum). It's Great! As brilliant as the rest of the Build Mod! I really like every Aspect of it.

anchor in my stern! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> OK, now i'm after you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> and...i've got the pearl! (and two manowars by the way) and i'm sure i'll get some help from all those nations who i have a letter of marque with. let the hunt begin! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Um... i guess that rumor i heard is true... As i last visited the Tavern on my favorite hidingplace, the Bartender told me that Morgan Terror asked for me few Days ago. So i decided to take a longer holiday on St. Martin, where i established a small Settlement - on a well hidden part of the Island... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Besides i wakend the anger of Morgan, i think i made a second bad Mistake: I just saved a Guy called Artois Veysey, an excellent Navigator, but rather bad Neleefighter. I took him into my Crew, but he sadly died in an ambush we encountered on a small island. Well, i found a good replacement for him... but something tells me he was more important.
There is an Entry in my Questbook about him... Hope i don't need him to finish the Main quest (i don't remember - first time i played the Game was a time ago) ?!
Please, tell me he wasn't that important.
