If you choose to tell Orable Caron to be nasty to Rachel Blacque, your conversation with Marc indicates that Orable has killed her, and she's been removed from St. Pierre. Even so, when you bring Marc home, your conversation with Milon indicates that Rachel is well.
A bit of tweaking to their respective dialogs means that the dialog with Milon about Rachel being well never happens, and you don't get to hire Marc as an officer - serves you right for betraying Rachel.
(Of course, if you instead give Orable the verbal kicking he deserves, then Rachel remains alive and well and the dialogs with Marc and Milon proceed as normal.
