Need Help Removing a dagger from an NPC's inventory.

Is there a cheat to force remove a dagger from an NPC fighters inventory, so they unequip it and equip something else? Provided of course there is something better there for them

Give them the better weapon, exit the menu, they should have it equiped now. Go back to the menu and remove the dagger.

I have done this but he doesn't swap it. Jack Sparrow is the NPC from Gof, so I posted a question about that in the thread. However I was wondering here, in this more general thread, if there was a console command to force them to remove it or a file for NPC's I can edit.
