Since this game is very open ended and has a lot of role playing and story telling in it. Wouldn't it be cool and fun if we had a special forum section based on telling stories? One could write their own adventure story based on their pirate life. The only thing you need is the creativity and ability some writing ability.

The only rule would be
-It has to be in SOME way based on Sid Meier's Pirates

Everything else is up to them

-focus on one adventure or an entire lifetime
-Have it from the Hero's view or just a crew member experiencing the whole adventure
-So pretty much do what u want

<b><span style='`font-size`:25pt;`line-height`:100%'>Successes of Story Telling Forums</span></b>

Here's an example of another forum that did something like this and it paid off big

<a href="http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=224" target="_blank">http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumd...splay.php?f=224</a>

-What they did was have sub forums for all their games, and stories in each one
-Some stories in there are incredibly well written and sound like a professional writer (some)
-And their games though different share the same open end ness and role playing as Sid Meier’s Pirates!-

And as a side note if you see "Victoria Empire Under the Sun" in stores its a must buy. Their games keep u hooked for years. And it’s a classic example of Amazing game play make up for `piss-poor` graphics. Their games are for anyone who likes more complex games and is history buff. Be prepared for a hard a** learning curve, I spent the first 2 month simply learning how to play.

Back on track as u can c they have 3,565 threads of ONLY STORIES.

<b><span style='`font-size`:25pt;`line-height`:100%'>Reason Why We Should Have It</span></b>

- I think it would be cool if we had something like that too it could really improve the community and make this game more fun. Rather then think "I want to have the highest score" it would be more like "I want to have the best story" which does make this game more fun.

-Playing Paradoxes games I rarely ever went for simply having a high score, I always played out a story in my head and always had new ideas of what to do from the AAR (After Action Reports) forums

-And if you want a more practical value for it, it could always help young teens learn to write with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism from the community.

<b><span style='`font-size`:25pt;`line-height`:100%'>Final Thoughts</span></b>

I know I haven’t been on these forums long, but I honestly think this will be such a cool thing to do.

So I ask the forum moderators or who ever is in charge to please consider my suggestion

We'll let the public decide. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Thanks, Gabriel! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Stories and Pirates! go together very well, as Cutlass Isle and ATP have already proved. So I vote for yes!

I voted yes as well. I've already concocted stories in my head about my adventures. It just makes it so much funner that way. That's why I've always considered the original Pirates! and now this one to be an RPG in the strictest sense of the genre. Everytime I play, I find myself making a backstory for my character and then playing it as I see they would handle the world around them.

I voted 'Yes' for this one also. As I love to write and read stories myself and I think people/gamers could
get some truly enjoyable minutes from reading about other players' stories and adventures !
Stories like these are perfect for me to transfer to my handheld and read on my many `one-hour` busrides.

I give such a forum a big <span style='color:green'><b><span style='`font-size`:21pt;`line-height`:100%'>GO</span></b></span> ! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Morning Sailors <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Sounds like a nice idea. I´ll give it a "yes"

A big yes from me, I have an active imagination when I'm playing games. So being able to right my thoughts down for other peoples enjoyment, does appeal. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I voted no simply because I'm a firm believer in the old "no traffic - no group" rule. Meaning that if there is a need for such a forum, there would already be story postings in here (maybe they'll come anyway? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) and that creating the forum in itself will not motivate enough people to fill it, at least not for very long.

But hey, that's just me and usenet lore. Prove me wrong. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think the idea is great. Usually, there are some writers who really can tell stories in a way that keeps you longing for the next chapter. So, a big <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> from me

I'm for it if it is something everyone will enjoy - and if it brings more people here, that's even better - more ideas, more suggestions, more help, more work for me... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Just kidding! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

There's already 2/3 smallish stories posted somewhere, can stick them in it if does get the go ahead and start from there - I believe in the Experiences Playing Pirates thread <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

ya but it would be cool to c some real massive stories, like Paradox has if u check out their forums

and as regard to nem's comment, again using paradox as an example, there never were any stories until the forum was created. And even then it took a while till ppl started writing in there, they needed some people to kinda break the ice first and give the rest a foundation to build on. But if u look in ther now after a couple of years, u c 100 hundreds of stories (link below is their library for just 1 of their games) and we don't have to have it for just SMP but all the games that are or will come on this forum.

<a href="http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126291" target="_blank">http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showth...ad.php?t=126291</a>

If I wanted to be picky, I'd point out what you said yourself: they needed some people getting the whole thing going by posting good stories, else the forum would've stayed empty. That's exactly what I was getting at. Get some people to write great stories and soon you will see if there's really a demand for a stories/RP forum.

But hey, just sharing experience... wouldn't want to tell anyone to not ask for a new forum (as long as I don't administrate it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> ).

they don't need to be good stories, just 1 or 2 small or long ones to just get everyone's creative process moving, not too many people want to be he first person since it will be "all eyes on them".

but i think it would be wrong not to do it just cause it might not blow the roof off imediatley, obviously some people have shown interest so they'll kinda start things off and eventually it'll catch on.

I'm in favor of anyone who writes as if they were a real pirate going in a separate forum, does that count <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I don´t get quite what you mean, Yossarian, but if you´re saying that the game just ought to provide the background and the stories told are purely fiction, I´m with you.

@Gabriel_Stephan
That´s how it worked with Jagged Alliance 2, by the way. The first stories were really describing some scene of the game, by now we´ve got some (and really great ones) that are only very indirectly linked with the game itself.

Two stories that really got me hooked are in the links below, the first one is based on Patrician II, the second on Port Royale.

The only drama I have with these type's of forums is that they sometime atract people who take themselves wayyyyy to seriously, and it is the case with some other forums, otherwise i dont have a problem with it but before us mods talk serioulsy about it we really need to get at leas 30 votes or so

<!--`QuoteBegin-Gabriel_Stefan`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Gabriel_Stefan)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->30 votes jeez, that'll take like a month.
You got 13 in just two days. Patience, young padawan. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />
