Sailing between islands without using the World Map

If anyone is interested

I have managed in the stock game to sail from Curacao to Maracaibo and from Hispaniola to Cuba without using the world Map ( did the 1st accidentially trying to escape Pirates )

It takes some time, even with maximum time acceleration, (x8 ) and there are no encounters so it is a bit boring - just watching the sunsets & sun rises

So it appears that CoAS has something like of PotC Build Mod's Direct Sail.

From what I understand, in CoAS indeed you can do that, but the towns will not be on the island you sailed to, so you can't go ashore. Or something.

This is correct Pieter, you can't in less the island you sail from is close to the one you are heading to. take for example you go into sail mode between For De France and Base Terre. You will be able to sail to either one without going back to the world map, and if for example you sailed to Basse Terre you could sail back to Fort De France without entering the world map, if however you entered the world map or went into the town at either of the towns you would not be able to sail to the other because the game will load sail mode and the other town will be to far away.

So in effect all we need to do is find what controls the draw distance for the ship to islands and that might then allow us to sail from Turtuga all the way down to Port Of Spain without ever entering the world map and not having to worry about not been able to do a return trip after leaving the ship to enter the town. I think their will be more than just draw distance involved here but if we can find the code that effects this we should be able to increase the distance and allow for town to town sailing without the use of the world map. Once thats done we then need to find out how to add encounters to sailing without having to engage in combat on the world map first.

Come to think of it i did edit some code (can't remember what now) but it allowed you to to enter the sea from a longer distance and see the forts, this is included in GOF 1.0 already, how ever it doesn't allow for long trips, the furthest i have been able to see the fort is around 10,000 yards away but it could be further as it doesn't alway's allow the spy glass to show the distance or any of the forts info.
