what exactly does "east of xxx" mean ?

i have a problem, i'm trying to find one of my relatives and i do have the complete map and it says "Search East Of XXX". the main problem is, that theres no `rock-formation` in the water or something i could look for.
so went off my ship and walked along the coast, trying to find the totems and stoneheads and stuff, but non of them are there...

anyone can help me and specifiy what is exactly meant by "east of" ?

Is this XXX a readable name of a city or is a part of the map is missing?

Try using your Spyglass to see further off. Just compare your map to the map of the area, and land where it looks closest to where you need to be.

"XXX" actually is a readable name of a city. didn't want to spoiler it...

finally i found it! the map is wrong. there's a deserted cabin at the beach on the map which isn't there in the game... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Only some of the treasure map landmarks are visible from the water. You have to land to see things like cabins, totems and geysers etc.
