Where are the Ships of the Line???

<b> HELP ME!</b> I have been trying to find a ship of the line, but I cannot find one at all! Can anyone tell me anything to help me? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

It seems to be the case the following from what I've read (I've only seen one before, and I was sunk trying to capture it).

1) Everybody except the Spanish have access to them.

2) There is a very small chance that in the later time periods, if a nation is annoyed at your pirating enough, they will send one out as a pirate hunter for you. This may or may not be related to the wealthiness and size of a colony (ie. they can afford a SOTL).

3) I've seen one in a convoy before sailing near Antigua (it was French), I believe it was an escort for another ship.

Note: The next best thing is a large frigate.

It does, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> but just one question...what year were you in when you saw the French ship of the line? I will also mention that I do have a large frigate...a friend of mine was jealous.

Well, this is going to confuse the situation more, but I saw it very early in the game, maybe a few months in? I knew I had to have it, but my equipment and crew was insufficient, I took a chance on dodging enough cannonballs to disable it, but it didn't pay off

Having said this, I think it's completely random, with a very small chance of being deployed in the event of escorting a valuable ship, or chasing high profile pirates who are a big nuisance. I don't believe there is a set delay before they start coming out, but the probabilities are very slim.

Yeah, I read in the manual that they are rare, but I still think there should be one once in a while. Maybe a mod will fix this (?).

I like having a smaller ship that is more maneuverable - with triple hammocks so I can have a huge capacity for as many men as I can - that way you can still defeat the bigger ships - and sail circles around them while you wear them down! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
