Fixed [WIP] Merchants transformed into hybrid Navy/Merchant Captains

"Merchant captains, whether or not they have escorts, are given some navy-like properties. They wear navy outfits, they have NO merchant cargo, and they get a +10 level boost in addition to what they got from being a merchant. They still have "merchant captain" as their designation though."

Another weird thing, dont know were to report it, so I do it here.
Twice this evening I attack a group named :"a single merchant heavily escorted"
But the group is only Warships, there is NO Merchant among them:shrug

This sounds to me like something which might have been in the game for a while already or maybe just coincidence...
 
My point is: you played the game for years and those descriptions have been fine until quite recently, no?
 
I have never seen it before, and be live me, I have boarded a lot of escorted merchant ships, for years I will say.
 
I remember thinking they were wrong in the past.
When I investigated, I found that it actually was correct.

That, combined with @ANSEL's similar experiences, confirms this issue is brand new.
 
Well at least it's a random problem then. During testing today I haven't had this problem yet (I think) 1 time I might have had the problem but the encounter was close to an island and I don't know for sure if the trading vessel was a coast raider or part of the encounter. But have seen this type of encounter at sea without any problems.

I haven't changed anything about this code so I'm kind of confused what could have changed it

I hit an escorted merchant ship up while testing Levis's recent fix.

It had merchant ships

I'm not doubting @ANSEL at all, but it is possible to miss a ship, for it to slip away, or for random weirdness to happen. Maybe Ansel can find another escorted merchant ship encounter and see if it is missing the merchant again?

It could be as simple as some ship is incorrectly marked as merchant in the ship file too....
 
No No. Twice time it happens for sure. And if I should be honest, maybe more.
The Flags was Navy only. I let no one slip away,not in the game and not in real life.

@ANSEL and you were never sailing a tier 4 advanced frigate?

See the other thread, when I load your saved game, I get an advanced frigate rather than a xebec. Maybe some odd thing is giving you different ships than me?

EDIT to be clear not doubting you, just wondering what is going on. If the ships are somehow getting mixed up in your save or something.

Of course Ansel, family obligations first! My wife is also demanding attention now. When you do get a chance, check the other thread, because Levis is also reading your ship as a frigate, not a xebec. Maybe something weird is going on with your install, where the ship types are mixed up.

Goodnight Levis, you've earned your rest. After today's fixes, the new system is working well, with only a few minor issues left.

Your speed is incredible! Thank you so much for this! :)

(Also, the game is playable right now, you fixed the major issues tonight. So if you need to focus on your academic preperation for your test, you should do that. We can live with muskets on our navy captains for a few days. ;) )

I just check it. First the save in my game, and then downloaded the save from the tread: Both is Xebec's!
It is in your end something goes wrong, the game or I dont know what?

That is very strange, my install is just perfect.

@ANSEL your install might be messed up I think. :( Or your saved game got corrupted in some weird way?

Levis also reads it as an advznced frigate, the hms-surprise one, same as me.

If something in your install is reading ships as different ones, that could explain what is going on.

In other words, there were merchant ships there, but your game read them wrong.

Did you start a new campaign with the latest zip? How did you install it? First base game, then 4.1 exe, then latest patch?

Just making sure, I know you know how to do it correctly, just trying to come up with ideas how your ships could have gotten switched up.
