2 "general" POTC questions

JimM

Landlubber
I wasn't too sure on where to post these two questions, as they really aren't "gameplay" questions, so I thought they may be "Technical".

Anyway... I have 4 TGA photo files (seadogs2_0000.tga - seadogs2_0003.tga) in my POTC Main folder. They are all the same, and they are of Nathaniel in his cabin during the tutorial at the beginning of the game. DID I per chance mistakenly hit a "Screenshot key" 4 times and take screenshots? IS there a screenshot key? Do I need to save them? or can I delete them?

Second question... How can I play the OGG Music files? Is there something somewhere I can download to run them? If there is a "player" what one do you recommend? IS it FREE?? (those are the best) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Third question... In the Build 12 readme, it says that the F5 key is a quick save, but I don't think it works. I hit the key, and then, I "check" my save games, but it isn't there. Does this only work if you use F9 to quick load? Sort of like, if you are just about to combat, you hit F5, and if you die, you just hit F9 and it starts over? BUT, never shows on the gamesave slides?

I think f8 or f9 is the screen shot key mate. You can delete them if you don't want them.
Sorry can't help with the other questions I'm afraid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Thanks Capt' Jackamo, that is good for starters! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I guess, I can't add either... I had 3 questions... HAHA

Ahoy thar Matey....I useter have a small mate by the name of Jim....but he be Jim Hawkins....

anyway...to be sure, you did hit F9 for screen shots....now unless you change them in the "options" settings.......and half the time they don't work anyway, so I leaves them in Default.....ceptin for the "Enter" and "F4" buttons...the Quick Save and Quick Load are the "/" and "*" on your keypad....ceptin acourse them thar silly quotation marks I used fer this ere example.....

If you want the complete rundown on the keys....choose Options, and then Default......click on each setting...like 3rd Person Sailing....or 1st Person land and just jot down the keys into a scribbler or Notebook, just for key maps and games. You of course can set your own preference.......""BUT"" I warn you now...the quick save and quick load....DO NOT LIKE BEING SWITCHED..........my opinion...the rest....the Devil take them all

Great Idea on just copying them down! I didn't think of that. Sure would be easier then guessing at some of them as I do now. I am learning them, but... not all are in the book. So, this way would be great! I don't "normally" change keys from default anyway... so I will leave them alone. Thanks for letting me know what the quicksave, and quickload keys are. Like I said before... the B12 readme say they are the F5 and F9 keys... So... I guess that is why I had those screenshots, and when it didn't work, I just quit trying them.

Thanks again!

Jim

The quicksave and quickload keys used to be F5 and F9. They got changed at some point into / and *, though I have got no idea why. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Me neither Pieter, but I remember trying them out that way and the game just "quivered"....didnt like that at all.....so I set them back....

I understand the temptations to leave all the keys to default JimM , but I found that the ones that make sence and easier gameplay are too make your menus the same types of keys...F1 = Open main Menu, F2 = Open player Status Screen, F3 = Perform Hot Action Command, and F4 = Open Command Icon Menu

this allows you to change the very common and popular "ENTER" or "RETURN" button to Perform an Action.

Also according to the ways of popular First Person Shooter games, W = forward, S = Backwards, so you set your other buttons around these keys to use them with your hands and fingers without moving them all over the place. So I program my left "^SHIFT" to hold down for run. THen its natural to use E for swords...and Q for pistols....then I set these for sailing as well......A and D are left and right, as in all the other menus because they work the same for land. so they become sidestep for land turning for sea...E and Q become my sails settings....And of course my mouse buttons become Right for block and left for Attack.......these are somewhat standard for FPS's games......Now you can use your thumb of your right hand where most mouses are used, and hit the enter on the keypad with it, and your left can easly hit the space bar for talking......this might seem alien at first, but if you play alot of other games , you will see the combinations very often...dont be afraid to experiment, and as you use them, it will get alot easier....

have fun !!
