Ok, waaaaaay back when, I bought, installed, and played POTC. I was very disapointed to say the least. In fact, I still have a bad taste in my mouth just thinking about it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sick.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eww" border="0" alt="sick.gif" />

What I'd appreciate is some convincing on your part. I downloaded Build 12 last week, but still haven't walked the plank. I need a push, so if you wouldn't mind (I'm sure some of you won't), make me walk that plank.

Note, I recall figuring out the swordplay right quick -- and finding a fancy sword in the back of a cave. So concentrate on the other aspects of the game, especially sailing and those damn storms.

Well, I'm guessing you didn't play with any of the mods, correct?

PotC stock is EXTREMELY buggy and not much fun as there are dead ends and crashes &tc to make your gameplay really frustrating.

With the Build, there are bugfixes, new characters and ships that have been either added or brought to life because we found them "hiding" in the code from a rushed job - never activated, or deactivated for some reason.

More quests now than before - some were completed, and others were created.

New ship skins that are sheer delight...

Active environments - both on land and sea - where you may be attacked by pirates or thieves, rescue damsels in distress, or encounter a LOT of ships while sailing around islands.

There actually ARE ships in the harbor now, and it's not uncommon for you to board your ship and actually witness the fort blowing the heck out of some pirates who are attacking... You may even be drawn into the fights...

Storms - well, they're storms, and if you want to avoid them you can but it's a skill I can't describe (but I'll try) - you have to be in the overhead map view and sailing between islands, and not really watching your ship but the ocean ahead of your ship. If you see a flash on your periphery, a storm is brewing, and you'll start to see dark clouds gathering. TURN your ship immediately to avoid them. If you can't, and get caught in a storm, just furl your sails and ride it out - I usually hit the "g" key to make the time pass quickly - and then continue on when you get the overhead map view icon so you can return to sailing to your destination. That method usually minimizes damage.

There are gradations in weaponry now, you might have a really great blade, but it will be older and in poor condition. There's a blacksmith on Douwesen who can fix your blade. He looks like Nathaniel Hawk and is walking around in the port. In a betatest version of an add-on pack, there are blacksmiths for every nation.

You have many choices that are toggle-able... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> So if you do not like a certain feature you CAN shut it off!

Best thing to do if you want to understand what B12 is all about is to read the README which Sir Christopher wrote - it is entertaining and comprehensive... After reading about build 12 here on this page I bought the game on ebay last week and installed it yesterday. So far I love it and can't wait until the next build (hopefully with the new islands from Alexus_B (if i remember right)) is out and running. I think build 12 is a full add on and I would pay the price for an addon for this build.

btw I still have the original installed on my other computer in Germany and every time I visit Germany I love to play a little bit Potc

I have played Xbox, unmodded PC and the build. Given a choice between unmodded PC and Xbox, I'll take the Xbox hands downs due to the better controls and being able to sit in the recliner and play.

But put the build into the mix, and even sitting in the recliner begins to pall.

Some of the things I like:

Way cooler ships and more variety.
Being able to tailor your name and appearance. And your crew's.
Being able to fiddle with it, like changing your starting ship to a gunboat.
Better interface (you can update stats on everyone, not just the ones set as officers, plus new screens)
Doing dirty little jobs for the governor. Any governor.
Making pattyfingers with the governor's daughter right in from of him.
More game saves.
Variable quality weapons and the blacksmith is a great mod, even if kickass swords are too easy to find.
Multiple levels of difficulty.
Having to feed the crew. It adds a level of complexity.
Being able to sign letters instead of just paying a salary. Again, adds another level of complexity.
Separate personal and crew money.
Ransom
Letters of marque and european estates.
Tastes great and is less filling.

I haven't even tried the different quests as I've been too busy capturing pirates for the gov. And diddling his daughter or his niece or whatever the hell she is.

Pirates of the caribean is so cool. Once you start the game i gota admit it is a bit boring, but after a while you will get more dosh, and you will be able to buy more ships ect. Or if u want more money you could edit the game, like changing the amunt of money have and the ships, weapons ect.

even though i have not completed the game yet, well i have only had it a few days, but scince i got the build 12 mod it plays better (few glitches) and the graphics r better.

So just play it, if u don't u will not know wat it is like
