A few n00b questions on pre13

chosen man

Landlubber
Sorry to be a pain guys but I have a few questions regarding the latest build. I managed to download the 'base file' enormous great handfuls of gratitude to Pieter for putting it up for download again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

First off, I played for a round three hours straight yesterday and no bugs or ctd's except this one... after awhile I was not able to get anywhere after clearing the first deck(boarding) I was able to do it by pressing the 'r' or 'F3' keys. It did work in the same game session, infact for about 5 or so boardings. I tried reloading after a reboot but the same thing happened.

I wonder if there was a 'tweak' needed for me to excert on the build.h or something.

Oh and I almost forgot ..... Fantastic job you guys have done on the build !!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> I've only scratched the surface I think, of the many new and better features of the build, but from what I've seen is brilliant, ship combat is better, ai seems better too.

One more thing, when a ship that I'm in a battle with has struck its colours, can I still fire on it to weaken it further? not very gentleman like I know, but I was caught out a few times after boarding and got my arse kicked by some nasty men in tights! I had been focusing all my skill points on seagoing skills and consequently my swordplay was lacking a bit. Also, can I do the same, strike my colours too, and maybe lure a larger vessel which I know to be manned by fewer men than my ship, and take her?

Sorry, one more... is there the obvious benefit of 'crossing the T' am I guaranteed more carnage if I do? Sorry if this last question has simplified the wondrous things you guys have done with build, someone will get my meaning I'm sure. Thanks again.

About the boarding: That is a bug. Do you happen to have CORPSEMODE 3 set? Also: Which update are you using at the moment? Pre Build 13 Base? Or an additional update? It seems the August ones don't work right.

If you want a tweak for that boarding problem: It sounds to me as if setting CORPSE_AUTODISAPPEAR to a lower value should "solve" your issue. Or at least make you wait less long before you can continue.

If you fire at surrendered ships, your reputation will take a serious hit. The idea is that they actually ARE surrendered. If they fight you when you board, that is an unintentional bug.

You can not strike your colours yourself. Might be a nice idea for a future mod.

What do you mean with "crossing the T"? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Its a Naval tactic of the era. Imagine the enemy vessel is the vertical part of the letter T and you are the attacking vessel comprising of the horizontal part. When you come together it enables your guns to fire right down the length of the ship. Simple really, you get a better death tally when using a carronade for example.

Whish raises another point I forgot about. The long guns and carronades in the build have different ranges I know, but is there an advantage to get in close with carronades like there should be. Also, how can I adjust how easy a ship will surrender? is that just a question of tweaking the associated mod value, if so which, and where, they do seem to give up to easily.

I'm using the base version, and the latest update, installed as per the guide on your page.

cheers

So, any ideas lads ???
