a few questions

Powder Monkey
hey im new to these forums and well pirating in general.
this game looks realy good, but i have a few questions, is therelike real battle damamge so like if your shot in the hull you see a hole in the hull, or is the damage shown exactly thesame whateva the real damage is, im thinking i was right the first time as ive seen pics of peaple with theyre sails blown of etc.
and also is there a way to choose not to install starforce when first installing the gam or do youhav to remove it afterwards?

Damage is shown where you are hit. Look at the thread <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9891" target="_blank">Ah nothing like swiss cheese</a> for an extreme example.

There are patches available to avoid Starforce. You can either get a NoCD patch (I got mine from <a href="http://www.gamecopyworld.com" target="_blank">www.gamecopyworld.com</a>) or install the Supermod (see the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showforum=55" target="_blank">Age of Pirates Modding</a> section for details). Don't do both! If you just want to use the standard game with the NoCD patch, make sure you get the right one; there's an official patch to version 1.50 from Playlogic and a NoCD patch to go with it, and you need to apply the NoCD patch after the official one in order to avoid Starforce. The Supermod adds some features to the game, such as opening the banks and the city gates so you can go out into the jungle, but is not without its own problems.

ah so for my first playthrough do you reccomend i use the supermod?, or just simply a patch?
also i hear patching up the game causes many problems should i simply play the game unpatched, and thefore download a no cd patch for the first version?
oh and love the swiss cheese thread, im really looking forward to the game now!
very quickly however is there a option not to install starforce while installing the game or do i have to install it as i install then remove after instead of simply not installing it from the start?

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->always to have a basis of comparison by playing the base game first

So consider copying your install before you do anything else

then install patch 1.5 on one of the copies

and install the supermod on the other -> remember that the supermod plays best without (any) 1.42, 1.43, or 1.5 patch but it requires all 5 of its own patches.

ok so i guess first time i play ill try just normal and if i find it unplayable ill try the supermod, and ill put patch 1,5 on the first game.

and a quck question about the damage, does getting shot through ure sails make you slower, sht under the waterline make you sink etc, or is it just cosmetical and you die when you lose your health bar type thing?

Starforce: as far as I know, the game only tries to infest your PC with Starforce when you play for the first time, not while you're installing the game. So install AOP from the DVD, install the official 1.50 patch, then install the version 1.50 NoCD patch. <i>Then</i> play the game. That should keep you free of Starforce. (I hope so, since that's what I did...)

I don't know if hits below the waterline are significant. Hits to the sails do slow down the ship - enough damage up there can actually take down a mast. Chain shot is best for damaging sails, especially if you want to slow down an enemy ship but capture it otherwise relatively intact.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Grey,
you installed correctly, no Starforce for sure!
Only when you install by invite, playing 1.41 the first time.
However, there are lots of games with SF protection, installing
without telling you!! So be carefull those SF people are not very nice and sneaky,
they don't even have the guts to warn that the game includes SF. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

ah thanks for the advice, ill definatly keep my eyes open, however have you seen that starforce copition on theyre website, if you prove starforce messed up your computer they will give you 10 thousand <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> , somebody shud enter that, but hopefully if i install the game right it wont be me!
and i like the damage thing, i played a really good star trek game before where you could aim for engines weapons etc and literally cripple the enemy by makin it so they cant fire back etc

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

My favorite word for sh**t like that is Bullsh*t!!
Go to Boycott Starforce site and read all about those
"nice" People! Google it, it's right on top. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

just remember
that

starforce

is the final judge of the "fact" of your computer being damaged

and that at least 2 people who post on this forum

have had "problems" directly related to having that

"product" called Starfart** on their system.

So

Like both of those 2 people were told:

"Don't say that you were not warned."

**Starfart is the dramatically more polite variant of the obvious term used replace the word Starforce

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Thanks for the reassurance! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Normally when I find a game that interests me, the first thing I do is check <a href="http://www.gamecopyworld.com/" target="_blank">GameCopyWorld</a> or <a href="http://www.glop.org/starforce/" target="_blank">Boycott Starforce</a> to see if the game has been infested; if it has, I don't touch it. The one time I made the mistake of believing that because the predecessor (PoTC) hadn't been infested, AOP wasn't either, that's the time I got caught out. At least AOP had the decency to warn me what it was about to do, otherwise my PC would have been corrupted.

And I don't trust the removal tool any more than I'd trust a removal tool from the author of any other piece of malware. As far as I'm concerned, Starforce is a trojan horse (malware which doesn't reproduce itself but only infects your PC if you unwittingly run an infected piece of software). There are <a href="http://www.glop.org/starforce/remove.php" target="_blank">removal instructions</a> on the Boycott Starforce website.

thanks a lot for all the advice so far, i thought that starforce compition seemed a bit fake as they were the ones judging, and im glad im not the only person thinking that!
ill definatly try and install the game without starforce, why try and fix the problem if you can simply avoid it all together!
its unfortunate that at therelease of this game it cought so many peaple out, im glad now theres a lot of warnings on this forum so a newcomer like me doesnt have to face the issue!
just out of interest are the problems hard disk problems or a bit more seriuse that effect your whole computer? as good as this game seems i dont want to risk my computer on it!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> well two more people getting the drill about SF!
By the way, the Removal tool works, well sort of!
There are leftovers in the sytemfolder and Registry,
which have to be hunted down manualy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ty" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

Don't suppose you know the reg keys for them? I used the removal tool (and my system seems fine).

Look at the <a href="http://www.glop.org/starforce/remove.php" target="_blank">removal instructions</a> on the <a href="http://www.glop.org/starforce/" target="_blank">Boycott Starforce</a> website. These are manual instructions which tell you about the registry keys and files that you need to remove.

Cheers Matey! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
