I saw 'Master and Commander' last night, overall it was excellent and I must admit it brought a tear to my eye a couple of times and made me feel proud of England in a way that other films about war couldnt "the knowledge that I'm serving king and country is enough to keep me warm"

Another good one is 'The Bounty', Anthony Hopkins was outstanding in this, it was a shame Gibson made such a poor Fletcher Christian, and the storyline took a few liberties with the truth but still a good watch nevertheless

Anyone else have any other recommendations ? whats the Hornblower TV series like ?
 
The Hornblower TV series is really good; definitly recommended. Also "Captain Horatio Hornblower, R.N." is a good old film.
And how about "Mutiny on the Bounty"? Both versions. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
Agreed, I think the 1935 version of Mutiny on the Bounty was the best of the three

What a story that is, too long to fit into a 2 hour film. they should make the tale of "the bounty" and "the pandora" and subsequent open boat voyages into a TV series, 'hornblower style'

When you think about it considering we are a seafaring nation there arent enough films about the age of sail, any more ?
 
Indeed; it's very disappointing. I've been trying to get my greedy li'l hands on all seafaring/pirate movies I could get.
So I now have:
- Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
- Mutiny on the Bounty (1962)
- Captain Horatio Hornblower, R.N.
- Treasure Island
- Moby Dick
- Cutthroat Island
- Hornblower TV Series
- Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

This seems like a respectable list, but I think it's quite pathetic, considering the amount of seafaring movies there must once have been.
It seems I can find no others than the ones listed above though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
Look for Nate & Hayes, Long John Silver and there was a TV series from the 50's or 60's I can't think of the name of right now.
