Ai Ship following player

Heya here at PA. Im a vivid Pirates enthusiast and been playing abit of AOP:CT lately, downloaded supermod and love it. Fixes and adds so many things that should have been in the game from the beginning.

Anyways, one thing Ive been searching high and low for is a solution to the AI ships you currently have in convoy, everytime you go from world travel to sea view or from city to sea view your AI followers turn around, then discover they actually are with you and then turn again and start following you, quite an eye displeaser and pretty annoying when they turn around and bang right into the moor when you visit towns.

There must be a way to fix this, since the ordinary AI ships dont have a problem when you encounter a convoy on sea and go from map view to Sea view, they just keep formation.

Hope someone knows what im talking about <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ahoy K. and welcome to PA,

I know what you mean, and I think the AI behaviour is done by the executables directly. In the code, all one can do is assign tasks to the ships, which are then carried out.
The effect with the AI first turning around and then following again is, IMHO, an effect of them spawning too close for the AI's comfort. You can see, when the AI's vessel is faster than your own, that they try to hold a certain distance, which is a good thing... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
So, to come to an end, even if it is a rather unsatisfying one: I don't think, there are any means to edit or mod the low level AI behaviour. At least not as long as there is no official modding tool out, which would include modding at engine level.

So long,

Hawkeye

Thanks for the reply.

Ive been poking around in the GroupAI file and it seems the convoy formation for a NPC convoy is defined there, but im no coder, so I could be wrong.

It would make a good deal of eye candy for me to get rid of that tbh.

That has been around since POTC and before! Since the same files are used thru the games,
that seems to be a bug they cannot fix! I think The POTC Modders would have had a go at that!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
