another newbie question...

... I've just started a new game using 'build 11' and am unable to get any crew to join my ship? whatever tavern I go to there are none available?

Or, you can let him start to lead you to the merchant for a new spyglass, then shoot him in the back and kill him for a pretty great beginning sword. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />: If you don't mind the immediate reputation hit, o' course (you'll have to go rescue some maidens in the jungle to get it back up and trade in town again). But hey, that's a pirate's life for ya!

Still no geezers available...

..even after letting the old timer mollycoddle me around the town? I followed him like a love struck rabbit, but still no men to hire. I have visited another 3 islands and there are none there either? I decided to attack a few pirate ships, then board em for their troops instead.... its not so bad, plus its more fun than hiring as well... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hmm. What's your reputation? If it's bad (Rascal, Swindler, Bloody Terror, etc.) there's a good chance that men don't want to crew for you. You should go out to the jungle and find some damsels in need of saving. That's usually the quickest way to get your rep back up to a respectable Neutral, at least.

...folks, that makes sense. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Nice. I'm not talking about your relations with the various countries on the "International Affairs" screen, though. Open your character info (the screen with your name, xp points, abilities, etc.) and see what the title is just below your name. If it's Neutral, Bloke, Matey, or Hero, I'm not really sure what the problem is. If it's Rascal, Swindler, Bloody Terror, or Horror of the High Seas, <i>that's</i> why you can't hire crewmen, and saving damsels in distress will help push that back up to Neutral.
