Ahoy! i just got AoP today and i think its great, especially with the anti starforce patch. I also like you can customize the difficulty for the non hardcore audience like myself, so i dont even need cheats <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

My problem is how do you board? all i've managed to do is sink enemy ships, but dangit i want to board them and get booty. I have a officer with grappling skills and all and no matter how i approch an enemy ship theres no boarding action. if it makes any different im skill using the starter ship.

Also can i change Beatrix's name? It sounds too much like beavis besides i want to really be the character not play some chick named "Beatrix".

Thanks guys.

What are yours and your officer's skill in grappling?

In early levels you need to be pretty close. Typically unloading a salvo into the side right before boarding. You will notice in the top right a grapple appear with saying something like "Press F3 to board" ... Boarding will commence then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Did you start as Beatrice? You can change her name in the Characters/Characters_init.c file.

I'm not 100% positive but I think when changing things in the init files youll need to start a new game for it to take effect and work so after changing the name as william stated above you may need to start over.As for boarding the lower your boarding skill the more you need to match the speed of the ship your trying to board and if i'm not mistaken you can't board at as many angles as you can later on in the game,so try and come right up along side of them like your doing a broadside but even closer and set your sails the same as thiers and if your going alot faster than them and are in a larger/heavier ship go ahead and drop all sails to slow down enough if needed.

That's correct. If you change the init file, you need to start a new game for it to take affect.

And Fry is right. As you gain skill in grappling, or get a respective officer in that skill, it will be easier. Each point changes it by (I think) 5% of an angle it requires to board. So in the beginning, you need to match speed and be parallel with the boat.

im working on enabling the renaming of the character ingame, i know it's possible just have find the code again.

Thanks for your help mateys, I realized in AoP you have to actually assign officers to a position, and for some reason now bording is automatic. I got a guy with 5 in grappling and gave him all the boarding skills i was able to. I just wish i could change her name in a ongoing game but i might not be loosing much to restart.

Oh, does anyone know how to get the pirate campaign going? I choose pirate for her nation but i cant get any pirate quests, is it broken? If im screwed now i might as well start and pick another nation but it'd be great if i can get pirate missions.

if you want the story to go on then wait till you get to lvl 8

if you want to work for one of the countries then go to governor in one of the colonies and get a l.o.m from him

oh, you gotta be level 8 to work for the pirates? I wonder why to let you pick pirates as a starting "nation" oh well maybe some good modders can let you get "newbie" pirate quests.

dont worry there will be a lot of new quests coming your way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

you will not get quests from the pirat king becouse you become pirat king as a part of the plot (shortly after you find the second part of the map)
but once you become pirat king evrybody exept pirats will hait you so think well before you do that

I'm hoping a mod or update/patch makes it so when you go off and start your whole "free pirate nation" thing that it gets handled as a nation just like the others and you can have different degrees of hostilities or alliances/peace with other nations.Even though this is my first play through and I have almost everything if not everything set on easy(or atleast it was before all my poking around in the program folder)but it's a pain and almost rediculous the way it becomes you .vs the world once you try to obtain the whole libertania thing.Granted if I go and capture a spanish colony i'de expect them to be pissed with me,but i'm not theyre only enemy or problem, plus if i'm killing off for example the dutch I doubt the english or the spanish are just gonna sweep in with a war fleet and stop/disrupt your distruction of thier enemies(dutch in this example). It's makes no to almost no sense in most cases, yes in real life there may have been a good or at least reasonable reason for jumping in,but come on,later on in the game all nations attack you on sight, well except for those lil merchant fleets being escorted by enemy nations.Granted i'm usually all for the whole free for all thing and atleast on the world map some nations sometimes fight eachother but it still seems at least to me a bit of overkill as far as nation hostility, world map encounter rate, and the fact that warring nations will all but sail into eachother chasing you on the world map and yet they pay no attention to eachother(enemies...DUH!).I havent tried it yet on higher/hardest settings yet but if all it does is make the above situation worse i'll stick to easy until a patch or mod is made to fix/even out nation/individual relationships.
