As it turns out…

I believe it was just patch 1.5 making the game work, and the supermod interface was only changing the music (which was nice, but…) I want to benefit from all the good things of the supermod, and I can't seem to do that.

I uninstalled the game, removed starforce (breathed a sigh of relief, even though I can't see the effects of that action yet), reinstalled the game (didn't run it!), and then installed the supermod and 5 updates, attempting to run the game after each supermod update. I got as far as nothing, meaning I can't even get to the Playlogic intro before this pops up:
"Engine.exe has encountered an error…"

This is the error sig:

AppName: engine.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.4 ModName: sea.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00008c96

So, any thoughts from experienced users? Is Cybermod alive and breathing somewhere out there, and is he too busy (poor guy) to answer?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />  First, you do not install Starforce!! Second you install the supermod and all the updates!! Third, read the walkthru! Link in my sig. Now the game will play with the odd CtD,
That means you save a lot during play!!! Enjoy!!!??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Nosie: It's a bit late to tell him not to install Starforce if he's already done it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> That is why he had to remove it. After that, and the uninstall, he's basically already done what you said.

Desert Plah: Assuming that the removal of Starforce was successful and that you didn't then manage to reinstall it later, I'd suspect the graphics card. The only oddity there is that you said you did actually manage to get it to work with some sort of mixture of V1.50 and Supermod, which shouldn't be possible if the graphics card isn't up to the job of running AoP. Nevertheless, what sort of graphics card are you using? Do you have the latest driver for it?

I do know that there are some bugs which were fixed in V1.50 but not in Supermod; it may be that one of them has serious problems with your graphics card.

I was wondering when someone was going to ask that…

It's the infamous 9250, folks. The game actually says version 1.43, even after I messed with some 1.5 patch lookin thing. My guess is that, somewhere along the line, some kind of support for 9250 was added.

2 ghz AMD processor, 700something mb Ram, and 128mb graphix cahd.

I already asked it in the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11169" target="_blank">previous thread</a>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

According to the <a href="http://www.playlogicgames.com/data/downloads/ageofpirates/patches/AOPCT_release_notes_1.5.txt" target="_blank">release notes for version 1.50</a>, support for Radeon cards was added in patch 1.42. What you get from a clean install from DVD is version 1.41. I don't know how version 1.43 got onto your system; it was an evolutionary dead end which caused more problems than it fixed. If you have patch 1.43, delete it, you have no possible need for it. You only need either Supermod plus its five updates, or official patch 1.50 plus a NoDVD patch to bypass Starforce.

So, I've got 1.41 with no Starforce, and I've added the supermod, and the problem I listed at the beginning of the topic is what caused me to come here. If it were something simpler, I could handle it, (i.e. missing files, other small errors), but these kinds of errors are beyond me. So I came here. I take it this isn't common (other than the game being screwy in the first place with 9250's which I read somewheres else)?
