Blank Save Slots

When reinstalling Stock POTC I can save ok but get blank save slots. This is even before installing Build 13 on top of the original game. Anyone knows anything about this? //JRH <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I've seen that across several different versions. It goes away for a while after you reboot your computer.

Thanks for your answer! I thought it maybe had something to do with me "overloading" the SAVE folder when copying one complete game over another one (earlier). //JRH

I have yet to see that myself. I'd like to know how many people do have that problem and how frequently and maybe when it occurs.

It doesn't happen right after a reboot. It can come back quickly, or after many hours of play and many saves. I did notice when I was working on the sounds that it went away without a reboot once and I was getting the pics for a while before they went away again. I suspect a memory problem of some kind due to memory leaks.

Right now it behaves like this: After restarting my computer saving pictures work fine. But only if I'm still in that (first) game or start a new game from the main menu. Quitting completely and starting a new game means blank slots directly again until next computer restart.

In all cases I get a number of lines in the system log:
Leak: 'Bad memory address' line 0, size 54 //JRH

It happened with the first quick save from a new game playing Jack Sparrow.

The second blank save is the tavern in oxbay before the choice weather to talk to the guy on the floor or the guy behind the table ^^

Well now i have it. I didnt have it back in Cayman when i used the first autosave. And its been blank ever since then.

I only got the holy relic uppon arrival at oxbay ^^

I have another problem that occured about the same time as the blank slots. I have no idea if they are related:

I get thrown out of the game to desktop very often. If I leave the game on maybe it stays on for 15-20 min but not more. This message is repeated a 100 times in the system log:

Present
The device is lost and cannot be restored at the current time, so rendering is not possible

Anyone else who has had something like this? //JRH

I've never had that myself but other people have reported it. I don't know how you can lose the video device (the screen goes black, right?). How much RAM on your video card? Also, does it help to reboot your computer?

Is that with Alpha 9? I recall seeing something like that before, but not frequently.

My computer has recently been upgraded: new motherboard, graphics card and processor. 2 GB RAM.
I'm working on Build 13 beta 5.
The screen doesn't go black - I'm just thrown back to desktop often. Reboot doesn't help.

Trying to uinstall POTC is a little strange too: All visible files disappered (only an empty Bethesda folder remained.) But in "Change/Remove program" the "POTC post" was NOT removed.
(Other games unistall = ok)

Didn't know "device" was referring to video? Could it be a hardware problem? //JRH

Build 13 Beta 5? That's rather... old...! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
It does sound hardware-related somehow. Seems the game's REALLY picky about what hardware it accepts.
Although the game does run on my laptop, I'm missing the Douwesen waterfall and the BuildingSet models look ridiculously bright.
Both these worked fine on our regular computer. Urgh! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Ok, maybe I have to live with it then. I started to work on Build 13 beta 5 and the idea was to merge files only once, but didn't expect this quest to take so incredibly long... //JRH <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

I wonder if maybe <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&autocom=tracker&showissue=4&view=findpost&p=3217" target="_blank">this would help you</a>. firemark made some changes to his engine.ini file, which seems to have improved performance for him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Merging only once is a good idea, of course. But if you add the quest to Alpha 9 now, we'll make sure it keeps up-to-date with future versions too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
Of course that also applies if you merge it later; and if you need help with it, we'll surely help too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />
