Build 13 Final - Swapping Enemy Ship stats during Spyglass view

meltdown0382

Landlubber
Hello out there!

First of all, a really big THANKS to all who have been involved in creating the Build Series. Fantastic work!!!

Now, on to one little issue which bothers me a lot while doing sea combat and which I could not find a solution to within the forum:

When I check up onto the stats of an enemy ship through my spyglass, these stats constantly change - seemingly depending on the exaxt location of the crosshair and/or the waves movement. Therefore I never know the exaxt status of sails, hull or crew. Also, the sail and hull stats seem to reach values of over 100% sometimes. Is this related to individual enemy ship parts (cannons for example)?

Besides I'm suffering the minor problem of having these blank save slots (without picture). This issue seems to be resolved randomly after rebooting or restarting the game, as in one post explained. But I can live with that.

I'm using Build 13 Final over a clean PotC install. Clean with one exception: I had to use a fixed Executable (engine.exe) because of not getting rid of the Startup Crash Message that I'm using a debugger.

Any comment would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your comments! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

The changing values are intentional inaccuracies in the readings. You can decrease this effect or turn it off in BuildSettings.h.

What do you mean with "fixed executable"? With No-CD patch? The Build 13 file already has that included. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi, Pieter!

Ah, that's good to know! Thx for the quick response! :)

And yes, by "fixed executable" I mean a no-CD patch. I wasn't aware that Build 13 has that included. But does it also fix this nasty debugger crash issue ("Please close all Windows debugging software" or something like that)?

Kind Regards

Do you happen to have Nero installed? The game sometimes picks that up as being a debugger apparently.

Do you get that error message before installing the modpack?
Do you get that error message with the ENGINE.exe included in Build 13?

If "yes" to either of the above questions, can you please give me the ENGINE.exe that doesn't have that problem?
We could use that one for Build 14 instead then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

You are right, I read this <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=11836&hl=debugger" target="_blank">Debugger Issue Post</a> and can confirm that I'm using Nero (Version 6.6.x.x).

I definitely had the debugger issue before Build 13 (this is why I looked for the no-CD-Patch in the first place) and I believe to remember that it persisted after Build 13 (clean install w/o changing the engine.exe manually). Not 100% sure, however. I will check this and reply.

Regards

Well, if your file gets rid of that problem, that might work for other people too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I've just reinstalled the game from scratch, added Build 13 Final and still got the debugger message which obviously Nero causes (though from the look of it, the engine.exe has not been modified after Build 13 Final was applied).

After replacing the engine.exe with my No-CD-Patch, the game starts normally.

I will send you the file as ZIP-Archive to your Email address, maybe it helps in further efforts to even enhance a great mod!

Ahoy! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thanks a lot! I'll make sure to use that in Build 14 then; would be nice to have that one sorted.
Of course I can't test it myself because I don't have the problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Pieter, make that available as a separate download for people who have the problem. Don't make it the standard exe.

I can do that, certainly. If the file indeed solves that problem and also otherwise works fine (without requiring the original CDs), why couldn't it be the default though? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Mostly because we have no idea where this exe came from or what it does or anything else about it. Do we know for sure what version it is? Just make it available as a download for people who need it.

Alright, I'll do that then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Any chance you could tell us where that file came from, meltdown0382?

I suppose it's not the answer you wanted to hear but I really can't remember. Just looked up GCW but there's no file that matches the filesize or filename - as far as I can see. So I assume its origin has to be a different website or even a filesharing-network. Sorry! I fully share Hooks opinion about that - I don't intend to cause trouble among the community. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

It's not causing trouble at all! In fact, it's good to have an alternative file if the one we have doesn't work. I just don't want to see it made the default until we know more about it.

I don't remember how many files Bethesda put out. For example, if there was a patch or two. If there's more than one version, we want to make sure we're using the right one. For that matter, the one you have might be the right one and ours the wrong one.

As far as I'm aware, there were no patches, apart from a Polish one somewhere.
But I don't think ENGINE.exe was changed in that. So as far as I'm aware, there's just one version of the file.
