Can't seem to find any officers!

After my previous post on here, I figured I'd follow the advice and pick up the game. However, I seem to have hit a slight problem - I've done parts of the Peter Blood quest (And then quit that because ARGH RAGE) and am now doing the Ian InsertNameHere stuff. However, I have only ever found ONE officer, and that was at the start of the game, when all I had was 500 piasters. I also noticed this in the PB stuff - officers seem to dry up rather quickly.

Is there any special place to find the buggers? I'm currently visiting every single Tavern in the Caribbean, and failing to find a single bloody officer. I'm almost thinking I'm going to have to go blow up some ships and capture their captains in order to get officers!

Officers appear at random in taverns, the best way to get good officers is to capture pirate capt. and recruit them to your crew. But at lower levels most of them are going to fight instead of surrender. If you really really need a officer, save just before entering the tavern and savescum until you get one you want.
