Capturing Captains and night bug

Heya; it seems all i do these days is post on here bugs no-one else gets! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> but guess what; ive got another!
MOst of the time, when i board a ship on surrendering, the only option is to kill them. However, if there is other option and i choose one, like for example, the hire as officer option, when i get to to the transfer screen al it says in the ship's space is 'error' with a tartane picture and all the ships stats are zeroed. If I then accept this and return to sailing, it immedietly crashes; i guess cos its confused at the lack of a ship. Is this know? What might be happening?
Thanks, Skye

I also have another, more long term prob; in build 13 the only problem i ever had was a bug which made the game crash on the night after a large battle or large capture. This meant that until i got to an island where i could sail manually, I had to sail manually over '00.04' at night then return to the map screen and so keep doing this until i reach an island where I can stop off at. Once I have, it normally stops and i can sail day to day happily. This mainly happened with the larger ships in 13, but now 14 has started doing it in both the bartolomew and standard missions, which has led me to believe, as it has not been brought up before, that it must be something to do with me and my computer. It was damn annoying cos it meant I had to stick close to islands, and as we all know, thse big, juicy french battle fleets and convoys like the open waters;), so it means theres less 'pickings'.

thanks for any help I may receive, Skye

DJ Admiral, I am getting that one, too - even when above the level 5 required to hire foreign captains. A tartane in the pic and 'error' (including the..erh..apostrophes?) along with a crash. The time doesnt matter, I _think_ ...

Your other problem could have something to do with the fact, that around midnight the game summarizes all calculations on cargo, food, consumption, crew and a bunch of other things, that might cause an overflow, if you´re cargoload is full. There are numerous of other ppl who know more about than I do..

Yeah; that whole level 5 things got me vexed; this is my second time on build 14 and before i could do whatever i liked with my fleet once id gotten over level 5, but not now. I thought it might have been my officers but even he was level 7, so it must be something i changed in Advanced Options. Its known that the 'assign anyway' buttons broken isnt it?

It does seem to be everytinme I blunder a lot and sling a lot overboard and swap cargo and cannons and etc, so this is probably it. Im just vexed at how it only seems to be me; my system is well above spec so no probs there; other people on here must blunder as much (if not more) as me; afterall, im not even a pirate! though It is news to me about the cargo and stuff; there was no pause in the original game tho so it must be purely extra stuff from the build mods; I had no probs with build 12 but didnt use that as much as 13 so Im not sure...

Thanks! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Its not your computer, I get all the bugs you´re talking about, too..
Besides the occasional brainfarts coming in, shouting "i am so disappointed" "this doesnt work" etc I guess nothing is officicially known yet. Although we do have a bugtracker for reporting, only a few people (including you) are doing bugtesting at the moment. Also, a simple virtual sailor found a workaround for a bug, havent got a look at it yet.

Is this bugtracker the place i should be bombarding with reports as opposed to this forum then?

Ok then, no worries; just so long as its a known bug!

Just on more little tiny thing; the lack of people in the loansharks is knwon isnt it?

Thanks, Skye

<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->Yes, that would be really helpfull. The coders are looking in that section to track down bugs rather than looking in the forums. There is a section in there about Build14A8 bugs, just register and remember to include your errorlogs when you are posting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
The traker can be found here: <a href="http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/main_page.php" target="_blank">http://swankyplace.com/potcbugs/main_page.php</a>

Happy bughunting, Admiral! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

The midnight crash is indeed known and unfixed.
It appears to happen on large ships with full cargo holds.
A workaround is to dump a bit of your cargo before going to the worldmap.

THANK YOU MY GOOD PEOPLE!

I thought it must have something to do with that; though i linked it to cargo and large ships didnt realize it made a differance how much cargo, though I think it may have done it once or twice without blundering at all, I wouldn't worry about it; Ill take Pieters advice about discarding! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Peter, I have signed up; just one thing (sorry if theres documentation on it somewhere) but is alpha 8 stuff to be reported under the Alpha 7 option? Stupid question I know but i wanna be sure.) thanks for the advice! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thanks, Skye

I never updated the Bug Tracker to add Alpha 8.
Can somebody please do that? Thomas?

Is there still an error log generated for minor faults, ie my rep bug when openeing fire (should I report this btw cos I have a feeling its a problem only I'm having thus there may not be a fix), or do i just not include one?

Sorry for my stupidity, Pieter; I hadnt spotted it before! Cheers for adding <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Its known that the 'assign anyway' buttons broken isnt it?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Note that you can turn off limit for commanding fleets for main character by setting<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->#define FLEETCOMMAND_MIN_LEVEL                    1        // INT 1-10 - min. level of leadership at which character can command more than a single ship<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->in PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h and turn off all leadership and sailing level requirements by checking upper option in Options|Advanced Options|Restricted ship class (that one isn't described because of next bug I should fix).

Limitation of ship class main character can command was in <i>Sea Dogs</i> and since some complained that there's too easy to take frigate just after starting a game, so I believed that this would be welcome feature. Limit on required leadership to form a fleet is similar to <i>Age of Pirates</i>.

I certainly like that idea, Pirate_KK!
Can anyone confirm that the feature works properly though? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
