Character potraits

jip2

Sailor Apprentice
I edited my character (blaze) to look different and now I want to change the potrait of the character. How to do that? Which files should I edit?

Hey man,

I'm not sure if there has been an easier way discovered of doing this yet, but I figured out how to do it a while ago. The following is a cut and paste from the readme that I put in with my skin when I made it that explained how to install it. Hopefully that will clear up how to do it. Cheers dude!

Installation
--------------

Okay, this is the tricky part - if anyone can think of simpler instructions,
or an automated way to do this, please let me know <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />!

In this folder there are 2 files

DRedsand.gm
DRedsand.tga.tx

and then 4 folders:

256
128
64
PORTRAITS

DRedsand.gm:
Put this file in c:/program files/playlogic/age of pirates/ressource/models/characters

DRedsand.tga.tx:
Put this file in c:/program files/playlogic/age of pirates/ressource/Textures/characters

----
okay now you have to choose these for your character:

Go to c:/program files/playlogic/age of pirates/program/characters

-In this directory you will find a file called Characters_init.c ->open it

*** you may want to back this up just incase you change something by mistake that you don't want to***

-hit ctrl+f to open a search menu

-type in blaze or shark (unless you have changed the name - then look for that)

-in the same general geographical area as the name, you will see the model
that the game is using for you right now. If you haven't changed it, it will be
Devlin

-replace devlin with DRedsand

-Save the file

*START A NEW GAME to update the file

---
This next part is where it starts to get complicated. With the above parts you can use
the skin fine. However, if you want my err... digitally handpainted portrait, it gets a bit more
complicated. that's right - you can see my pouty face - you WANT to use this portrait... yes, yes you do.

-Okay - now look at the portrait that has been assigned to you in the game- remember it, and exit the game

-open the TX converter (you can download it from www.piratesahoy.com

-go to c:/program files/playlogic/age of pirates/ressource/textures/interfaces/portraits
from within the TX converter program.

-double click on the first picture there, then use the arrow keys to keep searching until you see the picture that is
your character's portrait

-write down the name

-now go to my 3 corresponding folders 64, 128, and 256 - rename the file inside each to whatever the name of that texture was

-load each file from within those folders with TX converter, and convert them to .tga.tx in their corresponding folder that has the game's textures in it, and replace the files there.
you may want to back up the files before doing so - just in case once again.

-almost done. Now you want to find c:/program files/playlogic/age of pirates/textures/BATTLE INTERFACES/PORTRAITS

-repeat the same process with the file in the PORTRAITS folder as with the 64,128, and 256 folder.

You are done!!!!!!!!!!
