Need Help Confirmed cannon hits make ships sink incredibly fast, and create " Greek fire" log spam

Hi there! First post is a complaint, unfortunately. :(

I'm not certain if this is intentional or not, but apparently any confirmed hit for cannon balls, chains or even grapeshot causes fires on all ship types whether ally or enemy. This makes merchant ships incredibly vulnerable in particular for escort missions. The game keeps referring to these standard cannon hits as "hit by Greek fire" but I thought only the QAR unique ship was supposed to have greek fire for its chasers.

I wouldn't worry so much about this being a feature if it weren't for how it also influences the logs that show up on the left side of the screen.

Is this a bug or a feature? I honestly think this thing really throws off the game balance since as soon as you get a forty gun frigate, you chew through all sorts of ships as they don't really use the Douse Fire mechanic to stop their ship health from going down. I haven't really gotten above a third rate ship yet but I imagine it just gets more absurd from there.

There must be something odd with your installation because that shouldn't normally happen; certainly I've never seen it. It is indeed true that only QAR should have Greek fire.

After you've been in such a battle, could you upload "compile.log"? It will be at the top level of the game installation folder, not in "PROGRAM" or "RESOURCE".

I just realized what I did wrong, it was indeed an installation issue. I did the installation in the wrong order (I unzipped the original March 2016 contents archive to overwrite the updated things that the installation wizard did) which also undid your extra fixes!

I think what happened was that it applied greek fire to pretty much every munitions type in the game due to certain code being overwritten.

I guess this is a lesson on what happens when people aren't thorough and cleanly installing! Sorry about that, it's resolved now.

Wow! I'm not sure how this could even be possible, but I'm glad to hear you got it sorted already. :cheers
