Engine.exe crash

axelrod_eric

Landlubber
POTC now crashes incessantly with the following error message:

ENGINE.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: engine.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: engine.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 00022246

The problem began only a couple of days ago; I had already been playing the game for over a week without so much as a hiccup. It first occured when I set sail from Redmond to Falaise de Fleur after accepting an escort quest and purchasing trade goods. I walked to the pier, boarded my ship, and jumped to the world map. It first crashed when I reached what was roughly the halfway point between Redmond and my destination. I must've reloaded the game a dozen times just to learn that it happened every time, not specific to that particular location on the map (also attempting to sail to Oxbay and Conceiaco).

I eventually arrived at Falaise de Fleur by making the journey primarily in 1st/3rd person mode, periodically opening the world map for a split second in order for the game to update my location. Once I was within shore range of Falaise de Fleur I used the Sail To command to reach the port. After that, the game did not crash again. Until now.

Now the game will, in addition to crashing with the world map open, crash when I move into different load zones on land and crash (every time) when I try to rent a room in the tavern twice in a row.

I installed build 12 today hoping that it would fix my problem, but I haven't had any luck.

One reason why I believe that build 12 has not fixed the problem is the fact that I have been unable to Reinitialize my save games. The game crashes with the same message when I hit "I" from the load screen and when I hit "I" from within the loaded game.

Is this on starting a new game?
Because the only time you can upgrade a save to build 12 is if the save is from Build 11--otherwise you do indeed need to start a new game.

I applied the Build 12 mod directly on top of the original game, and my savegames were from the original game.

Will I be able to "import" my savegames from the original game if I install Build 11 first, then update it to Build 12?

Nah axel, I dont think you can, it wont matter to much on the build, you could upgrade savgames from b11 -> b12 but im 99% sure you have to start anew when you start using the build, sorry <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

Nope.
It was kinda possible to go from 10 to 11, and I added upgrade code to go from 11 to 12.
But the problem is that we changed the fundamental way a number of backends work, and made a number of arrays larger (you can't resize an object array on loading a game, only starting a new one).

Note: Build 13 will also require a restart, but the 10->11->12 path will still be viable when we finally release the 12.2 patch.

Hi Guys ... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ... I didn't want to start a new topic so Im just cutting in here ..
Ok I got my brand spanking new copy of POTC last week , and let me say firstly I have been visiting here for a very long time and i felt like a little kid with a new toy when i finally found this copy at a local store !! wow its been almost 20 years since I played Pirates on the Amiga .
Anyway I loaded it and just had a quick peek at it " I only just walked around the cabin for a moment " before exiting POTC and logging into the Internet .
I dld the Installer and over a two night period got all build 12 .
Well ,, No luck starting up .... I have since come back here and read a lot of other threads hoping it is something simple .
# I think I have initialized it ok .
# Im not sure on what version /language I have .
I get as far as the loading screen after clicking new game and nothing happens even after a few minutes of waiting .... should i wait longer ? .
Any help would be appreciated .
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> cheers to all

Ps ... I realize you are very busy Nathan Kell and with news of 12.2 and build 13 <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> ... yipee !! my buccaneering days are still a possibility .

Hmm. Sounds like a euro issue to me. I'm sorry to have to recommend this, but can you download the full install version rather than the online installer, and run that?
(And run runme.bat afterwards if it doesn't autorun).

Hmmm.... I was hoping i may be able to sort it and get it running ...
Ok How do I check if i have a Euro version ?
In the meantime I will start downloading the complete build just as soon as i sort out why it says im trying to access from an unauthorised site ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> .
cheers

If you have english (or any other language) subfolders somewhere, you're probably having an Euro-version. Where do you live and where did you get your copy? Most likely, if you got your copy in Europe, it's an Euro-version.

Hi Pieter ..
Im in Australia ... n' thanks I will check for the subfolder .
I must say I downloaded your extra's as well !! ... hoping to add it to build12 soon .
# Im hoping I can i somehow get it all running if possible <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
Talk to you again in a few days when i get back from chores .
cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have just checked and there are no English Sub-folders anywere ... So i have a English or US version .... I will uninstall everything and start from scratch .
# Question 1 - Is there any other mirror site were i can get build 12 ? the complete lot as Nathan said earlier .
cheers

Full installation of Build 12 is only available from <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,24/Itemid,46/lang,/" target="_blank">http://www.piratesahoy.net/component/optio...temid,46/lang,/</a> . If that link really doesn't work, you can use <a href="http://www.myhostingplan.net/piratesahoy/Akella/potc/build/build12_full.zip" target="_blank">http://www.myhostingplan.net/piratesahoy/A...uild12_full.zip</a> .

(Hey! Since when is it a ZIP file? I'm quite certain I made it a self-extracting EXE file! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> )

Ah. That's a shame. The EXE was much quicker, I think. Only it pointed to the wrong folder. My bad.

No, I mean put the exe _inside_ the zip.

And about the path--Heh, have you looked at the b10 installer? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

Where did that point to? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

Beccause that one never did work with my Euro-version. Build 11 immediately worked, Build 12 requires Build 11 to be installed first.
