Engine exe failure on startup

Ive just bought POTC, have installed it on my comp which is a P4 XP home , 256 Mb ram , however after clicking on new game it gives an error message engine exe and mod version dx8render.dll
Is this a dx8 problem or something else
I would appreciate your help

Here's a link to Direct X, if I remember the Original game loads DirectX 8, but works with the later versions of DirectX as well.

Do you have Omega drivers? Exactly what are your system specs?

my system is im no expert but Acer aspire B300, 2.4 P4, 256 Mb ram lots of hd drive space stnd SIS controller ie video card and non omega drivers, and Xp home of course I gather it is a clean POTC just off a bought Cd

I suggest you install the Build 11 or 11.99, because you can generate an error report with it, which the "techies can salvage... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" /> The Omega drivers don't work for the SiS cards. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Yeah, there was another reported problem with an SIS card a few months ago, so it's probably that. :

Did you (skull) perhaps mean the pixel shading (which requires GF3/R8500+ level)?
