Engine.exe / Sea.dll

lincthra

Landlubber
Okay, I've just tried installing this game. It seems to install all fine, but whenever I try to run it, it comes up to where I can start a new game and then crashes with an Engine.exe error. If I change sea.dll it will load the new game, but eventually crash anyway with the same engine error (when I try to take my boat out to sea unsurprizingly enough, I believe). What am I missing here or what could the problem be? If my system specs are involved, or may be, I can give them.

Thanks,
Lincthra

Try this: Get my MODULES folder <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/pietersmods/modules.zip" target="_blank">here</a> and put that on top of your own. See if that fixes anything.

Nope. No change, same thing.

Then I'm afraid it has something to do with the hardware. What kind of graphics card do you use?

Honestly, I got mad and had to walk away from it for a few days and fight to get Vampire Bloodlines working instead. *L* Probably tomorrow I'll get back to fighting with PotC.

Let us know what graphics card you are using as well as the drivers. I have found that between the two of them, they cause a ton of crashes for this game if they are not up to snuff.

You're probably right. It's probably the graphics card:
Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family

Oh no. Not another Intel thingey. We've had several reports of those not working in the past. I'm afraid you'd need another GFX card; we never managed to get PotC working for Intel GFX cards. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I'm guessing that this is on a laptop, is that right lincthra?

Is there any way to even change graphics card/adapters in one?

::petros ... a desktop guy::

Well, I could probably add a graphics card...... if this weren't a company laptop. Looks like I'm just FUBAR'd. Thanks anyway guys.

Hello all, It's been a while for me to show up here but as I read this while d/l'ing the latest build mod '13 beta 7' I realized I had the same problem with build 13 beta 6 and tryed to find out why. It (the problem for me) was with the "Officers and Marines Skins (English, French, Spanish)" mod, after a few hours of foolin' around with - fresh install, adding each mod at a time and trying it out, I incountered the problem (described above) only with the Officers and Marines mod installed. After I reinstalled everything except that one mod everything worked fine.

I still however am expieriencing a strange slow-down with my comp as the game progresses, and it will eventuly crash, my quess is that I have a memmory leak somewhere but I am not very computer savy and don't know how to look for it. Anyway I hope that this helps and I'm sorry it's so late if it does help. If anyone has any idea as to my problem, any help would be greatly Appreciated and I thank you in advance.

I have no idea why the officer skins mod would cause troubles. The initModels.c file in there isn't entirely up-to-date, but I don't see why that should cause crashes. I have no idea what to do about a memory leak either. I don't even know how it works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
