Executions question.

The Irish Captain
Storm Modder
Hello PA modders. I've got a quick question for you. I'm playing as a RN officer and am canstantly hunting down pirates and taking them captive. Now, what bugs the heck out of me is that in reality I would have the legal right to execute these pirates. However if I do so in the game, I take a serious reputation hit. Now, I am looking for the code where this reputation hit comes from so that I can change it or remove it...is this possible and if so, where is it located? Thanks.

Hi. Although I am not modder, please, read thoroughly my posts "Brits are hostile toward me again" and "Serious problems with reputation". They closely relate to that what are you writting about here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

And if you have serious problem with reputation as I have there is a hint how to do reputation less severe. I am glad I am not almost alone here in my opinion because sometimes I feel myself already a little clumsily here and as I would be some fault-finder that want nothing more than bother modders and decrease their work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

for trouble!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

I even haven´t been using British flag but rather N.H. flag but it didn´t help me. But if you are enemy of Britain as I am now, then British flag is quite useful if you want to sail to the British ports so as they didn´t shoot at you. But it´s sufficient to use any friendly flag of country that is friendly to Britain but all surely know that. . <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

At the moment any execution has a negative effect on your reputation. This would be logical in a way, because even if you ARE an English officer, if you execute pirates, that would give you a bad reputation (with the pirates). However, it might be more realistic to make it so that executing pirates does not hurt your reputation or hurts your reputation at least less than executing any other prisoner. You can find the code for this (I think) in PROGRAM\INTERFACE\passengers.c and/or in PROGRAM\DIALOGS\Cabinfight_dialog.c . Perhaps you can check something like <i>if the executed character's nation is pirate, then devide reputation loss by a factor</i>.

Note: The REPLOSS setting in BuildSettings.h is a factor that scales the reputation loss when killing unarmed citizens. This factor ONLY applies to killing unarmed citizens and NOT to executing enemy captains.

It is the same problem that caused dropping my reputation probably. But if you want to takes the captured ship and don´t want to hire pirate captain as officer you are compelled do some persecution on the seized crew. I wrote about that in my posts but Hook didn´t want to hear anything about it and repeatedly proclaimed the reputation is OK now. But I think it isn´t. You should be more open and if anything is bad you should say we did something with the reputation but we did mistake about that and we will revert it back or we will be working on that yet so as it would be more favourable. I hadn´t to feel at least almost as an asshole or the man who isn´t able to play PoTC at all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

You can put the enemy captain in your cargo hold as well. Your reputation doesn't take a hit, unless you deliberately excute the entire crew.

I did it Pieter but it somehow didn´t work. Maybe the main problem is that from these option anybody who didn´t mode it can´t know what are the consequences. It isn´t clear. Who can know what´s happen if you sink captured ship or anything similar. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I've never had a problem with reputation. I'm usually at "HERO" level. I just wanted to do some good old Royal Navy Pirate hunting and executing. Just purely out of historical context.

I'm going to look into the files you mentioned Pieter, and see what I can do.

Good to hear that. What mod version are you using?

I'm using Build 12 plus my own mods and codes. There was a time when I knew this PotC code and files like the back of my hand...not so much anymore.

I would like to know if you would be hero in Build 13. it´s quite different from Build 12. In Build 12 I was hero too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Hi Rad,

I've been playtesting the pre-Build 13 Beta 1, and I have had no troubles with reputation at all. My reputation has always been positive, and is usually at Hero. Here are some things that I do in order to keep my reputation on the positive side:

1) After a sea battle where I have sank a ship, sail around and pick up the little floating men in the water. Each guy you pick up raises your reputation.

2) After boarding a ship and taking the Captain prisoner (telling him to sit in my cargo hold) you can go below deck and talk to those prisoners. Ask him to pay you the money to release him, he will usually offer you a VERY low sum instead, and when he does, tell him "I have no need for money, when we arrive near Island of Pirate I will release you". Once you have a handful of those prisoners, sail to a pirate island (like Quebradas Costillas) and let them go. Pick the dialog that lets your prisoner take his weapons with him when he goes. You will gain almost an ENTIRE reputation rank for each guy you release!!!!

3) Don't kill anyone in towns, unless they attack first. Be careful here - sometimes the innocent townspeople will be walking nearby your swordfight, and if you accidentally swing and hit one of them, well your reputation takes a nosedive!!!

In my current build-13 Beta 1 game my rep has usually been hero, sometimes drops a little here and there depending on what I do, but by following the above guidelines, I've had no trouble getting it back up to hero.

Hope this helps you!!!!! Now big-bad-Rad won't be such a Bloody Terror anymore!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Cheers all, and good sailing!
H.M.M.
