Solved Fort still has cannons!!!

Hello there! I am a noob player and I am having problems capturing colonies.
Here it is: I play GOF 2
I have Pirate flag and I am attacking Puerto Rico. The fort has 45 cannons and I can destroy 20 of them in order to attack with infantry.
When I manage to kill everyone and shack the city, I go to the nearest exit to order for capture but i cant because the fort has still cannons... How do i destroy them?
I have more than 2000 pirates ready to drink the blood of their enemies!

Capturing a colony is only possible after you finish all the chain quests of one Nation ( or Pirates). Before that you can only plunder.

Other than that you seem to be doing everything fine. That's the way to go about it.

I guess to start having a storyline I have to get on a Governor to do things for him and then to the general or on the pirate colony.
