Game crashes on startup

Mustafinator

Landlubber
Whenever I try to open the game, an error appears on the "loading game" screen, and says that engine.exe has an error and must be closed. I have tried to `re-install` the game, and that doesn't help either. I have a MSI computer with 1.67 GHz with Windows XP, and a nVidia GeForce Ti 4200 graphics card. I've opened the error.log file, and it lists up this:

Wow, from first glance I'd say you need to reinstall your program again.

HOWEVER... More info is needed - are you playing with any mods, or is this the unaltered version of PotC?

Do you have the European patch?

Have you been able to play the game previous to this, or not at all?

Are you video drivers `up-to`-date? You might try the Omega drivers, they are reported to be the best...

HTH! Let us know the answers to the above, and perhaps we can get your problem solved!

Again, welcome aboard! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Well, I have `re-installed` the game, and now, the game just exit to the desktop without a warning, half a second after the loading `game-screen` appears. I have tried to install build 11, but that didn't help. I have never been able to run the game, it just exits during loading. The error file is still the same. I haven't found the european patch, Akella don't have it on their webpage...

We have the Euro patch here...

<a href="http://build.piratesahoy.net/`build11-standard`.html" target="_blank">http://build.piratesahoy.net/`build11-standard`.html</a>

Scroll down the page and you will see instructions on how to get it (you do not need to download the Build again) - that will hopefully make things all right.

Well, I have installed the european patch, and I have also turned off `anti-aliasing`, but I'm still having the same problem as before. Nothing seems to work...

The only other suggestions that I can make is ensure that you disable your virus checker as that could interfere with the game. Upgrade the other drivers for your motherboard and sound card and `re-install` DirectX (I believe that you can download this from the Microsoft website, or it might ne availabel elsewhere)

You could also give us more specs about your PC like the memory size and what sound card you are running and perhaps someone will know if there are any problems there.

On one of your posts on another thread you said that you had problems installing the game,

Perhaps the problems that you are having are caused by the game not being properly installed.
If that is the case then the only thing that I can suggest is that you go back to the shop where you bought the game from and get them to replace it as you have got a problem installing it.

Well, I `re-installed` the game again, and installed the build with the European version, and still, the game quits just when the loading `game-screen` appears... I have the newest version of DirectX, Windows Media Player (which the game asks whether I would like to install), and the Newest Omega drivers for my graphics card. I have an integrated sound card in my motherboard, Realtek ALC650, 512 DDR RAM. I had trouble installing the game, but I have trouble installing a lot of games with my normal CD drive, so I just install them with my burner, and they work just fine, so I don't think that it is the `cd-drive`'s fault. I managed to install the game without errors. I have tried two copies of the game on my computer, and none of them work. And if you wonder: I have an original copy of the game, not a copied one...
