Help needed, bad dll's

Sharper

Landlubber
Hi, I purchased POTC today and had some problems running it.

Firstly there was the engine.exe error as soon as I attempted to start a new game, I checked the error report and the "sea.dll" file was at fault. I removed it to see what happened and the game loaded fine, minor problem the sea is black, that didn't bother me too much I just wanted to have a quick run around (Kill citizens etc...you know the usual) anyway after some time of that I went out to sea, and now as soon as I try to get back to land I get another error this time involving the "animals.dll" I don't want to keep removing dll's any suggestions?

Also, would the build 12 mod fix these promlems? (downloading now) Edit: Downloaded, no difference.

Any help, or sending good dll's would be appreciated

Dark_linkoc@hotmail.com

Edit: many more dll's faulty, seafoam.dll + sinkeffect.dll..Could someone zip all their modules folder and send it to me at the e-mail above.

Strangely enough, I have heard someone having the exact same problem before. He even mentioned the same DLL's. It sounds as if both of you are having the same corrupted discs. I will do as you ask and send you my MODULES folder tomorrow. Please note: My folder is meant for Build 12, not for the stock game.

I have uploaded my MODULES folder at <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/MODULES.zip" target="_blank">http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/MODULES.zip</a>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Strangely enough i can't find it on your site. I followed the url and came up with nothing. Pieter, did you removed it allready?

Yes, I did remove it. I didn't know anyone would still be needing it and I was cleaning up my webspace for a bit (I needed the space for the Post Build 12 mods). If you really want me to, I could make such a file again and reupload it.

hello! i have the same problem! I even chekced it! i removed my sea.dll file, and it worked, but just there was no sea then :p
I would be very greatful, if you upload these Modules again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Thankyou! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'll make the file and upload it as soon as I have the time. Unfortunately, my free time is in very short supply these weeks. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I uploaded my MODULES folder <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/modules.zip" target="_blank">here</a>. Extract it over your current folder and hopefully the game will work. Please note: This MODULES folder is from the European version of the game with all the modpacks installed on top. If it still doesn't work, install Build 12 on top as well. If it then still doesn't work, something's wrong with your computer... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I downloaded your dll files so far ir runs in mod 12(which is awesome by the way)

Doesw this mean that this game wouldn't run because they sent out a bunch of bad discs?

This is my third copy of this game I bought it twice for xbox and once used for the pc.

Could be, but the game is running on my normal pc, but gives problems on my laptop (which has a better CPU). Maybe it's a problem with the graphical cards.

I don't know exactly what is the problem, but I have heard this same problem from at least three people now. Suggests to me that there are bad PotC discs circulating this world. But it could be that certain graphics cards cause trouble with the game. But then another MODULES folder still shouldn't work... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Or the grahpics cards and drivers need upgrading.
I used to have similar problems until I upgraded my graphics card & drivers.
A lot of ppl tend to forget to read the system requirements to play POTC.

It's more a monitor issue in this case (laptop). I got the latest drivers but still crashes in the beginning. My monitor is set to plug and pray and i can't find additional drivers, so i think i keep paying on my pc.

Unfortunately, I've got the same problem..

(And hi. I'm a landlubber to these forums.)

I had 5 problems in total.

1. Sea.dll - Wouldn't even load up the first screen, so I put it on desktop. The sea was black and just made the game very awkward and difficult because it messed up the third-person sailing mode camera.

2. Seafoam.dll - Didn't happen until I entered Oxbay Port right after the tutorial. Removed that to desktop, barely noticed the difference when I played again.

3. Sink_effect.dll - This was the problem when I won a boarding battle against the Oiseau in Falaise de Fleur. Removed it and didn't have the issue.

4. Animals.dll - Any time I pressed 'space' to get to the open sea, I seemed to get a crash with this.

5. After doing all of the above? I now can't seem to even get off the world map screen without it saying: "Error with dx8render.dll"

If anyone knows how I can fix it?

Download <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/pietersmods/modules.zip" target="_blank">this</a> file and put the files inside in your MODULES folder, overwriting the current files. See if that does any good.

I'm afraid it didn't help..

Thanks for trying, Pieter.

Man overboard, here. There's no tech support lines..

Also, after looking at BethWorks' support area?

I found out integrated Intel graphics adapters don't support this game. PoTC only works on T&L-enabled adapter (GeForce, Radeon etc.)

I've got an Intel integrated...

I'm too skint to buy a Geforce etc. so my pirating days are over before they've begun, haha!

Thanks again!

Davy.

I am also using an Intel integrated graphics adapter, and the game crashes. I think you hit on what exactly is going on. It is a graphics issue.
