I've already uploaded it into my subdirectory on the FTP.

the whole white waller frigate is kinda inaccurate....nowhere near the real one, which was ment to GIVE THE IMPRESSION that it had alot of guns, while not having more than 5 or 6 guns on board, and a whole lot of fake cannon ports......, but thanks anyway! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />. this ship looked lovely...i just didn't want flat cannon ports. now i can have it without having to worry! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

another beut Kazeite !

@Lord Nelson,

Interesting - so you are saying this ship was created as a sort of dummy-ship? To bluff the enemy into thinking you maybe had more powerfull ships than you really did? In modern terms(thinking like fake planes on a runway etc) i can see this tactic as having a good pay-off, cut-out planes/tanks are pretty cheap to build.

It must have been a desperate measure to build a large wooden ship for the same effect? Were they used/built in large numbers or was it a rare option?

The original idea of Captain Hawk, who made the original version, was to add lots of guns to this ship, but only really small ones (low calibre). So she would have much guns, but would still not be very powerful. The fun part was that he did find pirates fleeing from him because he had so many guns. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Nice job, Kazeite! I don't recall what the original version looked like, but this one sure looks nice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Texture-wise, it looked mostly the same, actually <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> <b>Captain Hawk</b> only added extra gunports and smudged some white on the middle belt. This is his best creation so far, I think, even though he obviously doesn't know how to properly change the colors of the components.

Shape-wise, however, besides adding guports with guns, I've trimmed some excess shapes, added railing in the aft and some boats and second lamp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Anyway... what other ship needs more gunports? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I recall Petros has made some ships where he added some fake gunports. I don't recall which ones though. The Dutch Fleut or the War Galleon, I think. You should ask him. But you don't need to do anything on those models except add the gunports; the rest is all pretty much perfect. Petros is just about the best skinner I know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

@ Kazeite:
The White waller frigate came late in the age of sail, and was a merchant ship. but, since pirates were all over the place, the shipyards came up with the idea to make "fake" gunports, painting black squares on the white stripe on the side of the ship. it looked kinda like USS Constitution in terms of colours, but with only a few guns, and ALOT of fake gunports. Pirates would see the ship and think it was a warship [British or American, since i remember the british ships having that paint job at some point in history], looking at the seemingly massive number of gunports, and not knowing it was fake. they would run to get away from the massive amount of weaponry the target seemingly had, when in fact, it had about 5-10 guns. so, a White waller that looked like it had 40 guns, actually had about 10. it was an idea that was thought up and made by the Brits, and not many of them were made, which is why pirates never found out that they were fake.....

@Pieter:
i agree. Petros is just brilliant at making normal ships look stunning! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />
for the motor heads here, he's the Chip Foose of PotC!

So, I'm getting the distinct feeling that I've made all those extra gunports for nothing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

LOL. No problem. The trick only works if the ship actually <i>does</i> have a lot of guns in the game. Otherwise the pirates will not flee. And guns that don't have gun locators will not fire, making them pretty useless. And gun locators without guns look odd, so it's great thatyou added them. It doesn't matter that the real white waller frigates used fake gun ports with nornal guns; the PotC one uses real gun ports and very small guns. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

oh, Kazeite, don't think that! you just gave that ship a facelift! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />. i'm just letting you in on the REAL ones, not what these should be! i think the ship is brilliant now that you've fixed it. as i said earlier, the only thing that kept me away from that ship was the "sticker" guns! now that you've fixed it, i'm going to use it as my ship until the end of the game when i face the Black Pearl! then i can take THAT beautiful ship!:j2

what's the FTP site?? I wanna download ships too...

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Cheers...

check the FTP public details thread to find out about it. here's the link, in case your too lazy to go back a page and pick it yourself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

you need an FTP program to access it. something like FTP Commander. i know it's somewhere on the site, but i'm not sure where. try the main page of PA!, and Pieter's Pirate Page. one of them should have something worth looking at. i don't know because my PC has an FTP program built in, so i never needed to look...

Thank you for the tips <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
But still, it givs me a strange error... winsock #11004...

Well, Just passing trough... I officially entered the 2nd class ship capturing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Just captured a light Frigate... Really cool the way it handles. Anyway, can't wait to try these new improved models... I wish I had time to learn to skin as I'd love to give some life to the ships decks to vary the brownish monotony...

Cheers...

While we are talking about skinning, does anyone know of a good place to learn about skinning? I would love to learn, I have GIMP 2.2, I know it's not the best, but its all I can afford. (as it is free) I have been doing my best to learn features and such, but I just have no idea how people are able to make ships that show the planks and all the shading that goes into them.
