Is this an old interview at GameSpot?

I found some interviews with the CEO of Firaxis (Jeff Briggs).
There is a video of the game showing some of its features.
I've seen it for the first time and it is interesting. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Find it here:

It has a long futage of battles on ships as well. Good stuff!

(They are older movies BTW but still show more than what is official)

I think what the videos show is really interesting. The lightning, the ships, the towns, and the fights are pretty cool.

Has anyone seen them before?

Thank you for this find Civ. I had seen this page a little while ago but the link was dead at the time. Very good interview which will spawn my next post about realism in gaming. Thanks!

Cool, I look foreword to reading it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Indeed very informative videos. And if you ask me, the ships they were fighting on were different from the screenshots. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Did you notice, BTW, on the first footage that the ships were moving quite fast, but when they got (and chose) to attack each other, the game itself sort of switched to a different (and slower) engine?

I didn't notice at what point it switched but I did see slower fighting. I disregarded it because I also saw faster (ridiculously faster) fighting as well. Refer to my other post on "Rethinking Realism" for my speculation/hope that we can mod the fighting to more acceptable levels.

I found more videos on IGN. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

[EDIT] The ship battle one appears to be a bit slower and better. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I watched the video again. Civ, check it out. It appears that the larger ship is moving slower simply because it is a larger ship. It appears the sloop is moving slower because it is sailing into the wind. Look at the direction of the flags.

Another thing I noticed that pleased me very much was a ship passing our own which said "French Smuggler". Gone are the days of plain old English, French, Spanish and Dutch vessels. Now they seem to be further defined by their role.

Last, you guys must've heard where Mr. Briggs said the pirate havens and Spanish missions would be randomized so they don't appear in the same place twice. That is very cool because it will force us to change strategies and techniques. In the old Pirates! you knew exactly where to go to plunder, where to refit/reman your crew, where to sell goods. That will stay much the same because the regular towns will be in the same place, but these additional colonies being randomized will make each game a new experience. I imagine Spanish Missions can be plundered while pirate havens can be used to refit, etc. Very nice!
