Lifeboats?

Ok mates, this weeks of Real Pirates has been posted on the main site at www.piratesahoy.net.

I do have one question:
"How much do lifeboats cost?"

They seem to get plucked all the time, and it just seems like one of the strangest things to take off of the boat...

Dem `fully-enclosed`, motorized, fiberglass jobs like dem drilling companies put on offshore platforms in de Gulf (an' ye also be seein' on tankers an' cargo ships) surely ain't cheap an' kin prolly be resold fairly easily, Fred Bob be a thinkin'! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

Right, I'm with Fred Bob on that - they're probably not elcheapo little rubber dinghies... They might even be a fairly common type of craft that can easily be repainted and `re-registered` so that they can be sold...

Here be ye a link tew show ye what Fred Bob be goin' on about, matey!

Appreciate it mates. Vertex sent me off an `e-mail` as well in regards to that. It does make sense all in all. You take our currency and how much it costs and put their currency into effect.

Did anyone read on the ship security system? Nice electrifed fencing surrounding the boat. ZAP!!!!

Most of my friends and I use small Zodiac boats with twin 40's on the back. That way if one motor croaks you have a back up and an extra bladder of `jp-5` fuel. Thankfully we've never had to use them yet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

hehehehe Too true Catalina, If'n only the lubbers'd be fer lettin' plant me little rubber boat in them there waters i'd be makin' a hefty sum. As for the cost of a small zodiac (`4-6` ppl), you're looking at $1500 plus not counting the motors and fuel and metal deck plating in the bottom. So about $3500 over all per boat.

Well mate, from my own general, (or admiral) experience on ships, I'd guess a modern lifeboat is at least 3 meters long, fiberglass, has a roof (either a canvass or solid fiberglass), a motor, navigational equipment, medical supplies and rations, so I think in itself a standard `life-boat` is worth alot! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
