Mod Ideas, humble begginings

Ok, heres an Idea.
Instead of starting as a captain, maybe you can start as a sailor on some ship in the service of the nation of your choice and work your way up to Captain. You know, from Sailor to Midshipsman to Liutenant to Quartermaster etc. And you can stage a mutiny and take over the ship, too.
And, maybe have more carreer choices. Maybe you can be a merchant, an arms dealer, a smuggler, a privateer, a navy captain, an assassin, etc.
Can anyone do this?

I believe that this has been suggested before at least twice that I remember.
I think that the general outcome was that it isn't really possible to do it.

Aside from the arms dealer the career choices are already in the game as you can effectively do all of them whenever you want.
