OK,

THanks for this site and all the helpful information!
Definitely makes this game that much more enjoyable.

Here's my issue. I am working my way tourough the quests, (with some walkthough advice) I made it to the Pirate Leader house on Deouwesan I isalnd and got the Idols that the Governor wants returned.
I get back to my ship, which is now a Bark, and when I head out to sea I face no less than 5 pirate ships, 3 much larger than I.
I cannot switch to MAP mode as long as they are close to me...they chase me down and I end up sinking.

What I find happening nearly all the time is entering or leaving port, whenever I come out of the MAP world I am surrounded by 4 plus pirate ships...I might get to the island with my ship in tact, but when I come out of MAP, I have to battle numerous Pirates and the few times I succeed, I end up mooring with a beaten and battered ship that pretty much cleans me out financially to repair.

I actually boarded and caputered a Galleon but by the time I came out of MAP world near my next port, there was nothing left....

Swim Call, Swim Call.......

Is this normal?
Is there any way to reduce the number of pirates when transitioning from SEA to MAP worlds?

Thanks

Rotor

Yep, there sure is. What you need to do is go into your BuildSettings.h file--it's located in the PROGRAM folder of your POTC installation directory. In that file, look for these lines near the bottom:

// Coastraiders & Coasttraders mod
// generates local ships in ports and around the islands. Some local merchants, others pirates.

<b>#define COASTRAIDER_CHANCE 30</b> //Chance in percent that a coastal ship is a pirate and not a local merchant. <b>Set to 0 to DISABLE the Coastraider mod.</b>
#define AUTOCREATE_CR 1 //Set to 1 to create new coastships every time you leave or approach an island. 0 will create ships only if you ask a citizen about them.
#define REDUCE_CR 0 //Set to 1 (or 2) to reduce number of coastal ships by 1 (or 2) PAIRS. E.g. in case of performanceproblems.

The two lines I have in bold are the ones you need to notice. By default, there's a 30% chance that you'll run into pirates when entering or exiting a port. If you don't want to run into pirates at all, just change that 30 to 0. If you don't want the game to automatically generate ships at ALL, change "#define AUTOCREATE_CR" from 1 to 0.

Hope that helps, and happy sailing!

Hi mate , what happened with you is normal and if you managed to change the setting for generating ships near islands you can't change it for world map ( I think ) so try bying bigger stronger ship ( at least frigate ) this will help you a lot beside you don't think you will sink the BlackPearl late in the game using Bark <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p:" border="0" alt="pirate2.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-PirateSam`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PirateSam)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->...beside you don't think you will sink the BlackPearl late in the game using Bark  :p:[/quote]Generally speakin', ye be in de right o' it, PirateSam! It be great fun tew see how small a ship ye kin beat it wid! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />: <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Thanks All,

It did indeed work. I reset it to 20 and now I'm OK...I may increase it a little to add a bit more Pirates but I'll get a larger ship first.

Thanks again and Happy Sailing!

well Fred_Bop , It is exciting to battle BP in class 5,6 ships ... I only hope that I want ran out of amunation before sinking her like what has Orlando Bloom did in the movie when he loaded the guns using spoons , forks ... etc to fight her and he ends up sinking with the Intercepter <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

HArr! Dat be de truth! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Heh... It's fun to go after the Black Pearl with a smaller ship... In a bigger ship, the BP has a speed advantage that is just incredible. I rather enjoy a nice running fight... Might take a little longer, but it's truly a blast! (OOOH, pun!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
