Hmn, I was rather depressed these few days, to tell the truth. Festive seasons usually are depressing for me. I want my office and my crew back. Now. 
But at least I have a nice Russian game engine and my own specialisation in ship modding to dream about so I guess I am fine :3
Before hailing here to the world of sailboats and swashbuckling I was... also swashbuckling in another form. I made it all the way up to moderating the forums for the North American division of Granado Espada which is a Victorian era fantasy game not too different in genre from how the POTC movies 2 and 3 had turned out.
While the rest of the "children" are all so obsessed with power-levelling their characters in the shortest time possible I spent a lot of time writing roleplay scripts, expedition logs (all gone no-thanks to a forum wipe) and also, surprise, a lot of social support work for several players whom I knew were in similar shoes as me, relying on games for emotional support to tide them by dire real life situations. Which I am very familiar with.
Oh of course, most of the people here can mock me for that preference, but I have been in very dire circumstances in my earlier years and I should use that experience to benefit others. Not continue to flirt, gossip and sin in our Real Life (tm) RPG.
So my 2 short years in MMO games were such an emotional roller coaster because of that. Virtual commitment to the highest degree. I made real-world correspondences as well, where appropriate, just to let someone know there's someone out there who does care about her.
I brought her out of a very severe depression that at one point, drove her to suicide and self-imposed starvation for 3 weeks on end. She went on to have a bright career as a policewoman in Portugal before succumbing to kidney failure. And a life full of emotional and physical distress.
But I made sure she had a smile on her face. For eternity.
I got a letter of thanks from her brother, saying, yes, we should have loved her as I did. But was it about love? I think love is so misunderstood these days, to stand for things I do not wish to mention. But let's say I was the mistress and she the client, and I was appointed her guardian in life.
Contract terminated, I went on in life to seek another to help, but my own career had taught me not to be so serious, so Victorian in my social dealings, and so I've learned to finally, smile, thanks to a girl a world away.
I was told recently in the Build forums that the Portuguese sailors' songs were so droll, talking about having lost a lover far away...
But is it really about sadness. Non, there is hope, and there is victory over death, as we remember the fallen and vow to honour them. Not for now. For life.
My peers regard me as someone.. quite dangerous. I have social standards and expect them to be respected. And when I smile or give affection it's never an invitation to take advantage. I'm an advocate of social justice with which to support liberty, not anarchy, or, god forbid, preying on the innocent. It's for this reason that someone in my workplace recently got discharged... for not getting along with the mistress of the house. Literally.
I'd say, too bad for trying to hit on my 18 year old assistant.
Well away from Fado culture for now; I made quite a few videos of my old online love the Granado Espada game and its awfully pretty costumes. Some of them were typically droll and immersed in snow white sorrow. Others, like these, were a celebration of some small expedition I led.

These had to be posted out of Youtube as some silly Motorcycle Corporation claims my name infringes their trademark. I referred them to the namesake 1930s Howard Hughes movie which they infringed on.
Oh and speaking of sillyness, I have no idea why I decided to make this :3
Oh and I won't talk about where I was before I went into MMORPGs. The worst thing about being discriminated racially in RL is being discriminated and blackmailed online!
