Neutral->Horror of the High Seas?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I know about the time it takes for rescuing the wenches - I think it's better on different islands - Douwesen and Conceicao are difficult because it's in an area where other "outlaws" spawn. Seems to me that it was easier on Oxbay. Just keep passing back and forth between one area and another, and the rapers continue to spawn...

We should take a look at making your country's enemies YOUR enemies, so if you raise say, the Spanish flag, you will be at war with EVERYONE, not just (as with the English) the pirates.

Interestingly, when you play the main quest, and you attack Greenford and become renegade, your ship automatically flies the flag of the country that "hates you the least". <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" /> It might just be as simple as finding that code and working with it so that declaring for a certain country by raising their flag would make that country's enemies YOUR enemies...

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Not sure how to do that (*YET!!!*)... But hopefully there will be someone along who does! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

By the way, I keep doing pirate hunting missions for the governors now and then. Does that improve reputation or is it just a profitable side exercise?

If the governors are awarding you rank and land, you will eventually gain enough rank so that he will introduce you to his nieces or daughter... You can visit with them - and eventually marry one. You get reputation points for spending a night with your wife, but if she's your mistress and you're "cheating" on your wife, your reputation gets a hit.

Having land will allow you to earn a small profit from it without doing a darned thing except exist from day to day. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Oh, I´m arich land owner by now. However, I found out something about the rank system: You tell the governor more than once per meeting that you´re up to promotion. And you´re given always 200 acres of land per promotion.

Well, probably that was done the way because it´s the easiest, but it would be nice if that could be improved to the way Pirates! does it: the amount of land depends on how much you did in the service of the country before asking for promotion. Implementing that should not be too difficult (theoretically!), a scaling function like the one used for crew moral and days out.

I wish I knew how to do things like that.

I don't know how it works either. Those scalars make me shudder <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> because I am not a mathematical person. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> I think I have some kind of phobia about seeing equations. Maybe it was because my algebra teacher in 9th grade was a real fright! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Well, I am, sort of. I´ve just written my Master Thesis, or rather, the German equivalent, in finance and asset allocation, so I ought to know my numbers. The problem is, I´m no programmer, I had to do a course in Visual Basic way back, but that´s about it.

The code in PotC is close to but a little bit different from C - or so I'm told. I am no coding genius by ANY means - I've come at this from a webmaster's scratch education in Perl, and I found it similar enough not to be daunting... I just picked this stuff up piecemeal, and am still learning it... Take a look at this sticky:

<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/`ftopic318-0`.php" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/`ftopic318-0`.php</a>

Rambles a bit, but there are some good tips there on PotC code.

Otherwise, check out the PotC Wiki:

GREAT stuff there - it will help you get a handle on things. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
