Never have to fight pirates?

I recall in the stock game having pirates chase me on the world map and if they caught me I had no choice but to engage them.
This was fun and seems realistic to me.
But im playing patch 5 of 14 Beta and I never am forced to fight anyone.
I can always say no to the fight.
and no i don't have sea wolf.
is there a way to force myself to fight ships that catch me?
aside from a self imposed rule lol

Indeed I think that's a bug; you apparently can ALWAYS decide to not engage, which I don't think is intentional.
You can, of course, sail around in DirectSail mode and if a ship gets up to you, you'll have to fight or flee.
