PC Gamer Review of AoP

Capn_Tucker

Landlubber
Well, here's another review, this time by PC Gamer. They were somewhat kinder to our piratical friends at Akella, giving the game an overall 75%, or "Good". Here are the bare bones:

Highs: Fantastic ocean graphics and entertaining ship battles; lots to do.
Lows: Land battles are simple in comparison to sea forays; storyline weaker than its gameplay.
Bottom Line: A somewhat shallow, yet ultimately satisfying, swashbuckling RPG set on the high seas.

It's nice to see a positive review, but there isn't one word about the bugs, CTD's, locked-out areas or Starforce. Which leads me to wonder how long the reviewer actually played the game. But I'm just being a sourgrapes, and ya gotta love the review's tag line (see topic description).. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

swedish PCgamer also rated it 75, alltho the lowdowns in their opinion was, poor damage modelling, buggy and Starforce <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

Imagine that... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I really hate to say this folks, but it seems

that with the history of what happened in Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life,
The patch that fixed almost nothing and what it did fix, it fixed wrong.
Amungst other pre-designed purposful limitations necessitating premature death.

The similar history of Bethedsa's Oblivion
the patch that only fixes 10% of the known problems
and was never issued in all needed languages

And just to be kind
Bethedsa's Morrowind
had similar non-patch company performace

and now what has already happened to Sid Meier's Railroads

let's just say
state of the art for gaming in 1960
(Yes that was cruel)

It is beginning to smell like

AOP <i>is</i> state of the art.

First good news i've heard in weeks, i'm so glad that AOP got a 75% from PCGAMER, it really deserves it...the guys at gamespot should pay attention on how to give a proper review of a game...

BTW, do you guys have any idea how much did Sid Meier's Pirates! got from PCGAMER when it got out?

Wow, overrated by far, just like Gamespot which gave it a 92%...

That's because for some reason the reviewers think if a game has Sid Meier in the title, it can do no wrong. They could put out a game called "Sid Meier's Stereo Instructions" and it would make editor's choice.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

seriously considering changing my siggy.

Be my guest! I did rather like that one after I came up with it. I was torn between that and "Sid Meier's Spreadsheets" though... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />
