It just so happens we started a thread on that specific subject, and you can find it here:

<a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/ftopic1660.php" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/ftopic1660.php</a>

On a specific page of this thread I set up list of a number of Pirate and Swashbuckling titles, some of which have links to the books online so you can sample them before you go and get them from the store or the library.

This should get you started, but I would recommend <b>Cup of Gold</b> by John Steinbeck myself, it's both piratical/historical and fictional and Steinbeck is a name even an English teacher could love. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

A book I've always enjoyed, while not strictly PIRATE, is James Michner's "Caribbean". It covers pretty much the whole gamut of history in the Caribbean, seen through the eyes of several different types down through the years. Big thick book, but if you like reading <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> that shouldn't be a problem! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Again, welcome aboard! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

Aye, Cup of Gold is excellent. Kind of short, and it also is evident that Steinbeck was no seafaring expert - he kind of glosses over the seafaring aspect of Morgan's raids, but it's still EXCELLENT. Trust me!
