Quest Bugs

I have been able to fix some quest bugs in mid-game once. But I need to know exactly what is wrong with it at the moment. And figuring that out is rather hard and unfortunately I don't have much time these days. i have encountered something of a quest bug recently. .............. upon entering the prison, my character picture was flashing red like i was under attack. there were spanish soldiers in the front of the prison, so nothing wrong there, but when i went to the back of the prison where the man is jailed, there was a random british soldier there. i couldn't talk to the man or the brit soldier. also, the brit followed me around like he was going to attack me, but apparently fighting is blocked there, as he never drew a sword and i couldn't draw mine ("hmmm....that's not a good idea" came up whenever i tried) i assume he was trying to fight me, which is why my picture was flashing, but this conflict could not be resolved because we couldn't draw swords. essentially the quest is broken for me now.

have you tried just leaving the prison? The reason i ask is you get this 'effect' in the main quest also, when Govenor Sielhard asks you to pick the prisoner up from greenford prison. That same british soldier is also present in that quest, behaving as you mentioned.

Still all i needed to do was talk to the guy near the prison entrance who told me the prisoner in that mission had escaped. I dont know why the icons were flashin red etc , but when i left the jail my quest book updated and i carried on. I wonder if this will work for you, although your circumstances are much more complicated(with capturing the town etc)?

well, i have left the prison, gone back in, and tried again, but the same problem exists. i talked to the prison guard and gained permission to speak to the mysterious man in the red robe. however, he won't talk to me, so essentially the quest is broken for me, because i have to speak with him to continue the quest. i have tried almost everying, short of starting a new game. thanks for the suggestion though.

which means End of game. tried the 'I' button, but no go.
It happend at the end of the 3. screen and there was no
Error file. Yes I've set the engine.conf. Using Beta 5. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
