Questions about the Automatic Skills Up System

It might have to do with the limit of 2 skill points per level-up. Perhaps I can figure out how to remove that limit again.

I was searching for some info on this system as I start testing Alpha 8 and I found this old thread. I have played a lot using this system in earlier builds and I have come to the conclusion that it just doesn't work very well. Even with it set at 99 which I think is a high as it will go I have found it almost impossible to make any meaningfull progress in acquiring skills. I know there is a lot to work on in Alpha 8 and a player can always use the old stock system which is one of the really great things about the build: all the flexibility.

If we are going to keep using this automtic skills system, I think someone and I have no idea who, should take a hard look at making it easier and much faster to acuire skills.

Also could someone explanin to me how the merchant, adventureer, etc settings in the new game affect the initial skills distribution.

Thanks

And after all that when I tried to back to the old skill system. I found that I could not distribute skill points when I tried even though I had changed the settings in the advanced options. Did I miss a setting?

the merchant, adventurer, corsair, etc thing works by increasing their specific 2 skills faster than the other skills....

for example, the adventurer will have the Melee and Luck increasing faster than the other skills, but it still depends of your actions, of course.

Your problem is indeed a bug that was reported a while ago.
Apparently the arrow keys and the enter button can still help you assigning your skills.
I suppose this is another thing for Pirate_KK to look at.
Maximus said he had some fixed that he would upload, but that was over a month ago and there's nothing yet. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Another bug is that in the F2>Character interface you should have "V"s for two skills,
which are the ones that increase quicker for you based on the type of player you selected.

Talking about interface bugs, the item skill modifiers seem to no longer have any effect. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Hello Pieter,

Is it the assigning of skills that won't work even if you check that option in advacned options? Could there be somthing in internal settings that needs to be adjusted, or build settings, which I was assuming was dead now that we have advanced options.

Confim that skill modifying options are not working.

I don't think it's got to do with any wrong settings.
It's probably an actual bug.

BTW: BuildSettings.h is still used for the settings, except now you no longer have to change them there.
Annoyingly, changing thing in BS.h now doesn't work well anymore.
Still it can be done directly through console.c or the options file.
