Need Help Randomizing of Ship Stats

Ok so, I recently posed a question in the game play thread that would be decidedly more in place on this fourm.. so here it goes. I've been unable to find any post fully describing the mechanic that causes the randomizing of ship stats in game. I've been wondering how it works, and how, if possible, to disable it on certain ships (namely the unique ones). Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately by the looks of it, it doesn't work the same as in PotC; otherwise I could tell you.
