Requirements - (recommended , minimum)

DJ1

Master Mariner
Wonder what the recomended requirements will be.

I heard that the minimum will be 1 Ghz CPU, 128 MB RAM.

But think it is more itnresting to know what will be needed to play the game in high resulotion and with all effects included.

Does anyone have a clue?

I for one am getting a new PC for this game.

Well not really. Rome: Total War and The Sims 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2 play a small part also. But mostly the new rig is for Pirates!

I don't think, ever, in my 34 years on Earth, in all my years in this frozen tundra of a state I live in, I have ever wanted a summer to end and a fall/winter to begin more quickly, so badly.

Hey YankeePyrate! Hey Fred Bob! Hey et al!

G'day MQ,

I actually dont think most will have to upgrade, presuming you have a compt that can run morrowind id imagine Pirates! shouldnt be to much of a problem

mho of course <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hi Keith. Funny you should mention Morrowind. My rig runs it beautifully. Or should I say my rig RAN it beautifully.

Funny how about 12 gigs of mods in your data folder renders the game a tad sluggish. LOL.

Hi DJ1,
We do have system requirements posted on the Sid Meier's Pirates! official website at <a href="http://www.atari.com/pirates/pirates/sysreq.php" target="_blank">http://www.atari.com/pirates/pirates/sysreq.php</a> .

These are preliminary requirements based on Firaxis's best estimates. As the game becomes more final, our QA department will help determine minimum and recommended system requirements.

Of course, everyone always says, "Yeah, yeah, what's the BEST system to run this on?" The answer is almost always the same: the more juice you have, the better it will perform. Because of the ongoing coordination with video card manufacturers such as ATI, my understanding is that if you have one of the newest `high-end` Radeon cards this fall, then you will see a difference in graphics (shading, reflections, performance) between cards from 6 months ago. But as far as minimum requirements, the list on the website should be pretty accurate.

Hope this helps. We'll know more and offer further guidance as the game continues to shape up.

Best,
Jeff Foley

Let me clear up a couple things here. [geektalk] First, the min spec on memory is actually 256 MB not 128 (that was an early estimate). Second, if you want to see all the effects, then you need a fully directX 9 capable video card. We are using a lot of pixel and vertex shaders and, while they are not crucial to game operation, they do make things look a lot cooler. The machine at E3 had a Radeon 9800 Pro and the game ran like butter at 1280x1024 even though we are definitely NOT optimized yet (of course, that machine also had a 3.4 GHz P4 EE and a Gig of RAM - no, that is not the recommended spec <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> ). [/geektalk]

Hello again Fred Bob and all!

Devildog, your frozen tundra was actually more frozen than mine. I'll give you a hint so you can pinpoint me down to the city. Three rivers, lots of Polish sausage, a lousy baseball team, a lousy hockey team, probably a lousy football team again this year and we hate Cleveland and Cleveland hates us.

Thanks Captain. But the problem is I have 5 different flags and don't want to post them all in a signature. Since I can't decide between them I kind of randomly cycle them. But don't worry --- I have the URLs all saved on a Notepad doc for easy transferring. See? Pirates like us have to be crafty, LOL. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Now down to `bid-ness`:

Specs. I like them. I do not need a new rig for this game and I doubt too many people on this forum do. However games in general are publishing steeper requirements and I'm a little lacking in the memory and graphics card department. Upgrading is always a possibility but I don't need the hassle. I haven't checked the Rome:Total War requirements and I'm sure we all have rigs for that too --- but I want 10,000 men on the battlefield and that just ain't happenin' with this Athalon 2600+ (at least not at the graphics level I want it). But back to Pirates! I read Barry's post and I want my Pirates! to look JUST LIKE the ones in the videos. No degredation whatsoever. I have been waiting all my life for this game and I am getting a platform that will play it like butter at 1280 x 1024. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Can anyone recommend a retail PC package that will do this for under $1500?

thanx for the guidance.

I have

AMD +2500
512 MB DDR (PC3200)
GF4 Ti 4200

Based on what you guys from Atari say I should update my graphicscard to get an optimal view of the Pirates engine. I dont wanna miss some of your cool effects!!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Radeon 9800 PRO is what I am looking at at this moment. If the price on X800 will go down to a more reasonable level I probably will buy that one.

It is really fantastic to see how much cool graphicseffects there are on the topgames on the market today, like Farcry for instance. Even better to here that the pirates engine have included fantastic graphics effects as well. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Thanks, Barry, for the geek talk! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
