Solved Runtime error cannot start game

Martin Ekström

Landlubber
Hi.
I have installed the base game, and it works.
I then installed "Build14_installer_25052018" and it works.
Then I extracted "b14_beta4_final" to the game folder and when asked to overwrite, I choose yes.
And I can start the game.
But after I have extracted "post_25May_updates_190321" I cannot start the game.
I get a error message saying this. (see picture below)
Ive googled but I have not been able to solve this issue.
everything works up until I extract the post_25May_updates_190321.
I get an error log file in the game directory which says
"COMPILE ERROR - file: characters\characters.h; line: 46
define redefinition: PASSENGERS_MAX"
Any help with this would be great.
Thanks

Hi.
I have installed the base game, and it works.
I then installed "Build14_installer_25052018" and it works.
So far, so good.
Then I extracted "b14_beta4_final" to the game folder and when asked to overwrite, I choose yes.

You don't need to extract "b14_beta_final", as "Build14_installer_25052018" does that for you and then copies some newer stuff into place.
But after I have extracted "post_25May_updates_190321" I cannot start the game.
That's because "post_25May_updates_190321" is designed to work with the 25th May 2018 version as installed by "Build14_installer_25052018". By extracting and copying "b14_beta4_final", you overwrote some of the new files from "Build14_installer_25052018" and effectively put your game back to the August 2017 version.

Delete this installation. Install the base game again, run "Build14_installer_25052018", then extract "post_25May_updates_190321" and copy it into place. Do not extract "b14_beta_final".

Ah! Thank you so much! Will try this.

This is so weird, I uninstalled the game, installed it again, then when I run the "Build14_installer_25052018" it says Main files archive file not present "place b14_beta4_final.tar in this folder to continue.
I could install this yesterday without this issue.
all of a sudden im getting it.
I have reinstalled the game 3 times now, still getting this error message.

I think I found out what I did wrong, I deleted the b14_beta4_final.tar since I thought I did not need it, but I just realized I need to have it, but not unzip it.
Will download it then run the installation again.

Also, where are you trying to install the game? By default it wants to go into "C:\Program Files (x86)", which is one place you must not put it as Windows does silly things there. I've put mine into "C:\Games\Pirates of the Caribbean".

Hi.
I have my separate game folder.
But I downloaded the tar file and it installs now.
Thanks for the help
